Hand Holding: Zelensky May Receive Escort from Macron and Starmer on Next White House Visit

Oliver JJ Lane 5 Mar 2025

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has already expressed regret for how his meeting with President Donald Trump last week played out and has asked for a do-over, but perhaps eyeing the chance for another incident the British and French leaders may offer to accompany him.

It is possible the French government may have hatched a plan to dispatch both President Emmanuel Macron and Britain’s Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer — both of whom undoubtably have functional working relationships with President Trump — to wingman for Zelensky should the time come he returns to Washington D.C. again.

There are somewhat contradictory signals on this prospect coming out of Paris on Wednesday, and Westminster has not commented either way, however. The plan was first communicated by French government spokesman Sophie Primas on Wednesday morning, who expressed the idea in plain language, saying: “We are considering the possibility that Emmanuel Macron will soon travel to Washington alongside his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer”.

This could happen “in the near future”, she said.

That's all fine and good, but Trump still needs to know exactly what 'deals' were signed by Z with Macron and Starmer.

@MeganC  the ultimate goal is peace. You cannot have peace using a one-way conversation to nowhere.

You are so hung up on your hatred for Russia, Russia, Russia that you are failing to acknowledge that this will be Z's 4th promise of signing docs for rare earth minerals.

Z may have promised whatever he's proclaiming to promise already to the Brits or to France .... I don't trust him.  He may also be giving access to rare earth minerals in an area that has already been seized by Russia.

I find it interesting that you are so willing to give such a free pass to Z who we have given hundreds of billions to and not our own president who is trying to bring peace between two nations.  Good to know.

Peace at any price always comes at too high a price.

You are so hung up on your hatred for Russia, Russia, Russia

If they quit their war against Ukraine and their occupations of territories belonging to Moldova, Georgia, and Japan I'd be just fine with them.

I find it interesting that you are so willing to give such a free pass to Z

If some bunch of savages attacked you I'd side with you.

Israel, for instance is imperfect and they have corruption and problems with civil rights. But all that is placed in proper perspective when Israel is attacked by ignorant Muslim savages.

Ditto with Ukraine. I'll be happy to contemplate their problems right after the war is ended and the last Russian is ejected from their land. Or buried in it. Either way.

FWIW, Zelenskyy is not on the same level as Pres. Trump. Zelenskyy is dependent on Pres. Trump.

It's tragic what's happened to Ukraine. The reality is the USA is not going to send troops there and we are in the early stages of a financial restructuring so we don't go broke. Ukraine is going to have to look to their allies in Europe to sustain them if they want to keep fighting. If they don't want to keep fighting a ceasefire is a good place to start.

In the end Russia will have stolen more territory and will not pay any reparations. It's not fair, it's not right, but it is what's going to happen.

Pres. Trump talking with Putin makes a lot of sense not only to stop the fighting, but also to try and open up trade and possibly pull Russia a little bit away from China.

It's time to think about what's best for America.
We have a beach head. Now it's time to win the war and save the Republic.

Wait a minute.  Over time and with the history between the two countries, Russia feels that they have some rights to some of that land.  Ukraine feels that all of that is their land.  What is done is done.  Most importantly the Russo-Ukraine wars have been on going for decades.  With stories of leadership on both side killing their own to blame the opposition in order to garner sympathy from other countries and to gain land.  So -- Russia ejecting itself out of Ukraine isn't likely.

Trump is trying find a path forward for both countries peacefully.  That's not going to be easy.

What I have objected to for a very long time is the U.S. giving Ukraine a blank check.  We can no longer afford to do that and that's exactly what Z expects. He also wanted U.S. boots on Ukraine soil. Not. going. to. happen.

I want peace.  I want to see the slaughtering of innocents stopped on BOTH sides.

Trump has leverage with which to squeeze Zelinksy, even for just the fun of it. (Akin to an ant under a magnifying glass).

Zelinsky needs to learn the rules of the game and to play ball.

Of course he has leverage, but I hope that he also remembers Z cannot be trusted and out and out lied...Trump is aware of Putin's personality too and has to make some judgement calls.  I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

@MeganC  the ultimate goal is peace..... You are so hung up on your hatred for Russia....

Well guess the ultimate goal depends on who you ask, to me it would be to see Russia bled dry of military strength so it could not do what it is doing to Ukraine right now... it is ugly of me and not in Ukraine's best interest, but it is what it is (in my imperfect world).

I will never forget Russia's past 110 years (around 70 million murdered via democide, only China is worse)... nor should anyone. But even forgetting it, the past few years is enough that anyone with a right mind would know Russia is pure evil and power hungry for sea ports and rare minerals.

I agree Z is not trustworthy either and the babysitting is probable due to Europeans wanting us to fund this because they are unwilling to. All the postering does not equal actual money/weapons/intel hitting the frontlines.

Old stats so I added a few million to Russia's numbers above ...

Peace is the ultimate goal and if bleeding Russia of military strength is what's needed, Trump is going to have to achieve that objective. I think more than anything Trump is trying to prevent WWIII.

Here's a look at the countries with nuclear warheads and how many.  I am surprised. Russia surpasses the U.S.; not a good statistic.

I don't care what Russia "feels" is theirs. They "feel" they have a right to dominate all the countries the USSR used to dominate. And they say so on their official state media all the time.

And I guess Russian feelings are more important than the international agreements and treaties the Russians signed saying they'd respect Ukrainian borders?

How can you belive them in any peace agreement that cedes territory to them? They break their promises whenever it suits them.

You want peace but you're willing to let them keep what they stole? Why won't they come back for more?

I never said that I believe them in a peace agreement, nor did I state that they should be able to keep any territory.

What I did state is that historically the Russo-Ukraine conflict has been going on for decades.  How the first conflict began, who started it, what happened, what territory was taken, who broke the first treaty, etc., is debatable and opinions vary.

That can't be changed.  Trump can only hope to get Russia and Ukraine towards a path of peace currently.  It is going to be difficult. However, with the U.S. having an 'interest' in Ukraine's rare earth minerals ... the less likely Russia will strike Ukraine.  Can Putin be trusted?  I think that's a big hell no.  Can Zelenskyy be trusted?  I think that's another big hell no.

Like I said before, I wouldn't want to be in Trump's shoes, and again his goal is peace instead of the two nations continuing to slaughter each other.

I have no love of Russia, and particularly Putin.  But the fact is the USA and other NATO nations violated the agreement made with Russia in the 90s by gobbling up former USSR nations and former satellite nations into NATO, right up to the Russian border.  We made an agreement we would not do that.  We did.  Russia felt threatened with what we did.

You can sit here and say we would never become offensive with the NATO forces, but that is not how Russia sees it.

Trump has a noble mindset, and the correct one.  Rather than attempting to bleed Russia of every swinging d***, Trump sees the potential threat of this war gone horribly wrong, and he wants to end this conflict.  I agree with him 100%.  Waging a proxy war with the largest nuclear power in the world is not smart.  Plus, Russia has been severely depleted of men and materials.  It is time to end this.

And if Putin were honest, he wants to find a way out that it does not result in his removal.  I happen to believe if those men on the front do not get their huge bonuses(by Russian standards) that were promised to them, Putin will be forced out of office.  They will be in the streets.

And the very last thing I trust are the French.  They are to be trusted less than Zelensky.  If I am Trump, I would tell Macron and Starmes to keep their distance, or perhaps the USA withdraws from NATO for real.  And I don't think lands occupied by Russia are Zelensky's to negotiate away to France, Germany or others.  But I do think Trump may get Putin to give up certain lands that go back to Ukraine with the USA getting mineral rights, leaving some of those eastern territories in the hands of the Russians to do the same.  Crimea is permanently gone, Obama saw to that with his spineless stance to Russia.

And if I am Trump, I would not meet Zelensky in the White House.  Before presenting that munchkin to the Press, the documents better be signed, and have the signing somewhere remote.  How about the grounds where Custer and his men were slaughtered by Indians?  Because most assuredly, without the USA, Zelensky ends up like Custer!  The message to Zelensky and most of Europe will not be missed.

Millions starved to cover Stalin's arse when the collective farms failed. They sent troops to Ukraine and even took the seed grain.

That, alone, would be cause enough to never want to live under Russian control again.

I saw a movie not long ago (Mr. Jones) which exposed that perfidy. I have been right taking a dim view of the NYT (pronounced like a louse egg) for a long time. My parents read both sides of the debates of the day, and we got the Washington Post, the Washington Star, and, for a while, the Baltimore Sun. WaPo was low on my list, too.

Summary of the movie is here, on Wiki...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Jones_(2019_film)

Jones was a real person, (bio here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gareth_Jones_(journalist)) and while I have little doubt there is some artistic license taken, the truth is in there.

You want details about how Lenin and Stalin murdered the Russian population, read the book Gulag: A History by an author named Anne Applebaum.  A real eye opener!  She explains how the two of them murdered somewhere between 70 - 100 million Russians.

It is one of two books that I have read that upon finishing it, I wept.  The inhumanity of communist totalitarianism is beyond comprehension.  This in part is why the very last thing we as a nation state want to mimic is anything that Russia represents.  Russia is evil, uncaring regarding their  own population and absolutely nothing to mimic.  And when I see the USA going down the path of being like Russia, it is something truly cringeworthy.

Thank you.  pointing-up

I was under the impression that the visit wasn’t for talks, maybe a talking to, but just to sign the mineral agreement that Zelensky didn’t three times before.

There are two sides to every story aren't there?

There is a reason I've stayed off the Ukraine threads.  But some how my fingers went rogue, lol. I'm gonna try to do better. :chairbang:

Trump needs to know of any deals made by Z with the EU -- King Charles as far as I can tell has been aloof as far as current relations with the U.S.

I'm not quite sure why the U.S. is willing to give Z a fourth chance.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
A 4th, a 5th, a 6th chance...and whatever it takes to bring peace.  The alternative is the USA coming to rescue the idiot Europeans who most recently threatened to use nuclear weapons if they have to.  France as a nation has the intelligence of a gnat when it comes to conflict.  They will annoy the hell out of an adversary, even instigate a war, but in the end have others die in the fighting while they stand off in the distance.

As the conflict continues I don't think either side truly wants peace.  Putin wants to keep the territory that he recently conquered and Z ideally wants those areas back along with some sort of U.S. security which will only stir Putin's pot. Putin also wants some sort of security from the U.S.

So ... if we indeed are given a stake in rare earth metals in Ukraine, we will need to watch over our interests. How are we going to do that without the U.S. putting boots on the ground???

Ukraine has received around $10bn in actual aid from the US while the lion's share of appropriations had little to do with Ukraine at all. For this and with no guarantee of security Trump wants $500bn in concessions from Ukraine? We may as well annex the country with terms like this.

@MeganC  I don't know how you're coming up with $10B???  Appx. $128B has gone to aid for Ukraine.

In another article, Z claimed he only received $75B of the $175B.

In the little research I have done, Ukraine has rec'd far more than $10B.  Granted, the amounts differ from article to article, but if you can find a link or proof that Ukraine only rec'd $10B, please post the link.  Thanks.

1. 100% of the weapons we've sent to Ukraine were obsolete or slated for disposal. They had already been paid for and their replacements had already been paid for. Yet the American and now Ukrainian taxpayers are being charged top dollar for these castoffs.

2. 90% to 95% of the funds allocated "for Ukraine" never left New York City.

3. The Ukrainian aid bills are chock full of the usual pork, graft, and thievery that both Democrats and Republicans tacked onto the bills.

I've posted examples on here with one such $40bn aid bill sending exactly NOTHING to Ukraine.
