The optics could be very bad, considering Z had to go get a couple more guys to come back. It's like a kid rounding up their gang when they lost a fight...

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Oh hell no!!!!  Don't do it Trump.  If that little Grifter doesn't have the balls to stand up for himself to you, how is he supposed to counter Putin.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

Well guess the ultimate goal depends on who you ask, to me it would be to see Russia bled dry of military strength so it could not do what it is doing to Ukraine right now... it is ugly of me and not in Ukraine's best interest, but it is what it is (in my imperfect world).
Bleeding countries dry is not an effective method of stopping Communists, otherwise Cuba and North Korea's regimes would have fallen by now.

I think they see it more like a bunch of kids grouping together to stand up to an older bully -if even so, the optics look bad.

Nah, I don't see it that way. When it comes to diplomacy, the bigger the coalition, the better.

Here's part of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor

Millions starved to cover Stalin's arse when the collective farms failed. They sent troops to Ukraine and even took the seed grain.

That, alone, would be cause enough to never want to live under Russian control again.

And nobody forgets Walter Duranty's New York Times employing him during his constant lies about the genocide. The NYSlimes sure didn't want to take his "awards" away from him either.

Words can not express what I think of W.D. and the The New York Times, but I am sure Hades is in the mix if I did try.

I saw a movie not long ago (Mr. Jones) which exposed that perfidy. I have been right taking a dim view of the NYT (pronounced like a louse egg) for a long time. My parents read both sides of the debates of the day, and we got the Washington Post, the Washington Star, and, for a while, the Baltimore Sun. WaPo was low on my list, too.

Summary of the movie is here, on Wiki...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Jones_(2019_film)

Jones was a real person, (bio here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gareth_Jones_(journalist)) and while I have little doubt there is some artistic license taken, the truth is in there.

Do you have links and a timeline to that data?

You want details about how Lenin and Stalin murdered the Russian population, read the book Gulag: A History by an author named Anne Applebaum.  A real eye opener!  She explains how the two of them murdered somewhere between 70 - 100 million Russians.

It is one of two books that I have read that upon finishing it, I wept.  The inhumanity of communist totalitarianism is beyond comprehension.  This in part is why the very last thing we as a nation state want to mimic is anything that Russia represents.  Russia is evil, uncaring regarding their  own population and absolutely nothing to mimic.  And when I see the USA going down the path of being like Russia, it is something truly cringeworthy.

I was under the impression that the visit wasn’t for talks, maybe a talking to, but just to sign the mineral agreement that Zelensky didn’t three times before.

There are two sides to every story aren't there?

There is a reason I've stayed off the Ukraine threads.  But some how my fingers went rogue, lol. I'm gonna try to do better. :chairbang:

Trump needs to know of any deals made by Z with the EU -- King Charles as far as I can tell has been aloof as far as current relations with the U.S.

I'm not quite sure why the U.S. is willing to give Z a fourth chance.

A 4th, a 5th, a 6th chance...and whatever it takes to bring peace.  The alternative is the USA coming to rescue the idiot Europeans who most recently threatened to use nuclear weapons if they have to.  France as a nation has the intelligence of a gnat when it comes to conflict.  They will annoy the hell out of an adversary, even instigate a war, but in the end have others die in the fighting while they stand off in the distance.

As the conflict continues I don't think either side truly wants peace.  Putin wants to keep the territory that he recently conquered and Z ideally wants those areas back along with some sort of U.S. security which will only stir Putin's pot. Putin also wants some sort of security from the U.S.

So ... if we indeed are given a stake in rare earth metals in Ukraine, we will need to watch over our interests. How are we going to do that without the U.S. putting boots on the ground???

Ukraine has received around $10bn in actual aid from the US while the lion's share of appropriations had little to do with Ukraine at all. For this and with no guarantee of security Trump wants $500bn in concessions from Ukraine? We may as well annex the country with terms like this.

@MeganC  I don't know how you're coming up with $10B???  Appx. $128B has gone to aid for Ukraine.

In another article, Z claimed he only received $75B of the $175B.

In the little research I have done, Ukraine has rec'd far more than $10B.  Granted, the amounts differ from article to article, but if you can find a link or proof that Ukraine only rec'd $10B, please post the link.  Thanks.

1. 100% of the weapons we've sent to Ukraine were obsolete or slated for disposal. They had already been paid for and their replacements had already been paid for. Yet the American and now Ukrainian taxpayers are being charged top dollar for these castoffs.

2. 90% to 95% of the funds allocated "for Ukraine" never left New York City.

3. The Ukrainian aid bills are chock full of the usual pork, graft, and thievery that both Democrats and Republicans tacked onto the bills.

I've posted examples on here with one such $40bn aid bill sending exactly NOTHING to Ukraine.
