Lindt to cut out US as Canada's chocolate supplier to avoid Trudeau's retaliatory tariffs
Swiss chocolate maker Lindt is expected to supply Canada chocolate from Europe instead of the US after Canada announces 25% tariffs

By Pilar Arias , Bonny Chu FOXBusiness

Swiss chocolate maker Lindt & Sprungli may soon cut out the United States as a chocolate supplier to Canada amid a tariff war between the North American countries.

Canada, which sources 50% of its Lindt chocolate from the U.S. and the rest from Europe, may soon receive the products entirely from Europe as a measure for the company to sidestep the trade conflict.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced 25% tariffs on American goods in retaliation to Trump authorizing 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, which takes effect on Tuesday.

"We are monitoring the situation very closely and have identified different ways to mitigate the effect of tariffs," a Lindt & Sprungli spokesperson said to Fox News Digital. "These include the possibility of supplying countries like Canada and Mexico from our European production facilities."

Oh well.  There's always Ghirardelli chocolate which is made in California.

We have Noela Chocolate and Confections in town; very pricey, but oh, so worth it!!  We buy from there on special occasions.

....hmmm correction -- I just went to the refrigerator -- hubby already ate those

I prefer a local(ish) company - Carol Widman’s Candy Company. They are famous for their “chippers”. Chocolate-covered potato chips.
Trust me, you can’t eat just one. They are a celebration of life!

How will we ever survive this egregious act of Canadian evil.

Has anyone else noticed we are seeing a cocoa shortage?  I am particular in a certain cocoa that I make my coffee with.  Has not been available at Walmart or other outlets for months.  Having to use a nasty alternative, a reddish looking Nestle's version.

And that stuff, is becoming hard to find too.

  • Well EXCUSE me!
Did I miss something, Lindt isn’t stopping chocolate to America, they are stopping the shipping of their chocolate from America to Canuckistan…..that means that when I get totally depressed I can still buy their big bag of truffles at Costco and send my A1c into orbit for the next three months…or more.

I know that you are using cocoa in your coffee -- but have you tried instead a dash of cinnamon? It takes the bite out of coffee leaving a smoother tasting coffee.  My hubby often puts a piece of dark chocolate candy in his cup while his coffee is brewing.

There is a cocoa shortage and prices of chocolates are rising and have been rising.

I propose that the United States should take the extreme retaliatory measure of forcing the Canadians to keep Quebec.

Irish Cream, but not Bailey’s, way overpriced, other options just as good for far less.

Sounds pretty good, but I am excessively picky in making my pot of morning coffee.  My wife doesn't even dare to try to do for me.  Hands off.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
March 24th will not come soon enough, which I believe is when Trudeau will FINALLY step down.  He has done enough damage to Canada IMHO.
