Quite frankly, I'm disgusted by your characterization of a head of state whose country had been invaded pleading for effective support in its defense as a "grifter". Zelensky presented cogent arguments why diplomacy with Putin will not result in peace, and was met with shouting, not even of counter-arguments.
J.D. Vance is hardly a benefactor of Ukraine. He is holding down the hard isolationist end of the range of foreign policy views within the Trump administration and has been vociferously against aid to Ukraine for some time. Just as the isolationists who were against Lend-Lease during the phase of WWII when the US wasn't in yet could hardly be considered benefactors of the United Kingdom or the Free French, even if their country was, Vance is no benefactor of Ukraine.
Trump's "you don't get to dicate what America will feel" in response to Zelensky's prediction that America would also feel the pain of war was asinine. If Putin succeeds in reassembling the Soviet Union with a fascist rather than communist economy, a war against the China-Russia-Iran axis would be even more painful than WW II, and our nice oceans notwithstanding would surely involve casualties on US soil.
