The Union Jack should be flown with the broad white diagonal stripe (St Andrew's cross) along the top edge of the flag, closest to the flagpole. This means the white should be on top of the red diagonal stripe (St Patrick's cross) in the upper left corner when the flag is hoisted.

Must be a bad day for the left, when they throw the diplomatic gaffe card out there on a flag, that is 99% a mirror image.  If Myst hadn't shown us, I'd wouldn't have noticed in the least.
