One-Third of Musk’s DOGE Staff Resign in Protest
« on: February 25, 2025, 06:52:31 pm »
AFP 25 Feb 2025

Roughly a third of staffers at Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency have resigned in protest, saying that they will not push through demanded changes that put the country at risk.

“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” 21 staffers of DOGE wrote in a letter, seen by AFP on Tuesday, to White House chief of staff Susan Wiles.

“However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments,” they added.

The workers initially worked for the United States Digital Service, which was transformed into DOGE after President Donald Trump took office on January 20th, with Musk effectively taking over the department.

Musk is the political force behind DOGE, with a small group of employees faithful to the multi-billionaire being dispatched across government and working toward gutting federal staffing and spending.

While Musk is not the formal administrator of DOGE, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO is nonetheless directing operations and will even attend Trump’s first cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The world’s wealthiest person and a top Trump donor, Musk has no ministerial portfolio or formal decision-making authority but has status as a “special government employee” and “senior adviser to the president.”

He downplayed the significance of the departures, saying that the workers were “political holdovers” who worked remotely and refused to return to the office as ordered by Trump.

“They would have been fired had they not resigned,” he added on X, the platform he owns.

So these are not even Musk's actual staff. These are long time government employees whose department name changed to DOGE.

I imagine a few remain just to spy on the program for the left... at least now the number to find out is smaller.

Misleading headline (by design obviously) since these were the existing career staff for the old Digital Service and not Big Balls' team.  Musk will replace them with SpaceX and Tesla people.

Pretty sure most of them were on the list to go, before Musk even started. By resigning I am pretty sure they're giving up all benefits including unemployment... etc.

Another victory for DOGE. The shame is that it was only 1 third. Everybody was hoping ALL of them would quit.

What a deflection, this 1/3 is not from Musk's Big Ballz Brigade.  These are (were) entrenched IT guys who built the shitty systems in the first place.

That is the way it use to work. I remember one time in the 90's  I was given a "choice" to resign or be fired.  If I resigned the VP said he would write a letter of recommendation for me.  I said no thanks and stopped at the unemployment office the next day.

Not sure what to think about this after reading the full article.  I some are making some outlandish assumptions about this.

While I support what Musk is doing 100% in terms of identifying fraud and abuse, I equally disagree with his approach on dealing with the federal workforce.  I do not believe the courts will support these actions, and I do believe it will compromise Trump's presidency, and ultimately the Republicans come November, 2026.

Musk has zero comprehension of Parkinson's Law, zero idea how to go about saving money with government workforces, and is taking what I consider the hard road with infinite drama, which will results in mediocre results.

His experience at Twitter, a company he wholly owned is nothing like dealing with government.  NOTHING!!!  And his success and brilliance have not prepared him for what he is doing.  Like any billionaire, they think they can walk over anything they want, any way they want, and that will not fly well when politics are considered.

I think they may just as well be sugar coating this, and the fact could be they do not want to be a part of what is taking place.

When I see Musk, I think there is something off about him, mentally.

I have never heard one person working for him all these years profess how great he is to work with.  Not one.  I have heard many praise President Trump prior to his becoming POTUS.

The fake outrage at DOGE at GOP townhalls is being coordinated by a Soros-backed NGO called Indivisible.

Pure Gold: The DOGE Staffers Who Resigned Left a Mistake in Their Letter, Proving Just How Bad They Really Were

They probably should have re-read that email first, however, before it was leaked.

“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” the staffers wrote in the collective resignation email. “However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”

Their job, as civil servants, was to serve no matter who the president was. They knew that when they took the oath. They say that.
So they swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and do their duties regardless of administration at a vague, distal limb of the Beltway leviathan and now admit, actually, they didn’t really mean it if they’re being asked to be civil servants under a president that makes them do something they disagreed with.

TL;DR: They lied when they took the oath required for their job. They now expect to be treated sympathetically.

“All previously held senior roles at such tech companies as Google and Amazon and wrote in their resignation letter that they joined the government out of a sense of duty to public service,” the AP’s report continued. “According to the staffers, people wearing White House visitors’ badges, some of whom would not give their names, grilled the nonpartisan employees about their qualifications and politics. Some made statements that indicated they had a limited technical understanding. Many were young and seemed guided by ideology and fandom of Musk — not improving government technology.

As there is little doubt these people are detrimental to government, these need to be fired well before any contractors, too.  IMHO.

Very few in our government actually honor the oaths they took and that has been so for a long time.

Absolutely! Or publicly shunned if they can't get rid of them.
