California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) sent a letter Friday to Congress asking for $40 billion in funding for fire relief — two weeks after signing $50 million in spending to fight the Trump administration on immigration and other policies.

As Breitbart News reported, “Both bills were passed after a special legislative session called by Newsom after the election to prepare California to lead the opposition to the second Trump administration. Newsom and the Democrat-controlled legislature reached a deal to fund the anti-Trump effort even as the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire were still smoldering in Los Angeles.”

One $25 million bill provides legal help for illegal aliens; another $25 million is to fight other Trump policies in court.

President Joe Biden provided six months’ worth of funding to California before leaving office. But the rebuild will take years, and Newsom — having launched his assault on Trump — is begging for more.

In a 14-page letter to congressional leaders published by Politico, Newsom promises: “Make no mistake, Los Angeles will use this money wisely. California will ensure that funds will serve individuals, communities, property owners, and businesses that suffered losses from these deadly fires.”

Newsom made no offer to the federal government in return — no changes in forest management, no changes in water management, no changes in emergency services, and no commitment to drop the $50 million in negative spending.

Ambassador Rick Grenell said last week that there would be “strings” on federal aid. Politico reports that Newsom is desperate not to have strings attached.

This author personally recommended to President Trump that he appoint a “special master” to oversee federal aid to California, along the lines of the September 11th Victims Compensation Fund.

The president accepted the proposal.

In 2001, less than two weeks after the September 11th terror attacks, Congress explicitly provided for a special master to oversee the disbursement of funds. Kenneth Feinberg was later appointed by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) defended spending $50 million to fight President Donald Trump’s policies while also asking the federal government for $40 billion in fire relief, saying it was necessary to defend state programs.

Newsom spoke to reporters after launching a website devoted to “Accountability” in the state’s homeless spending — though, as Breitbart News pointed out in a question, the website does not actually include the amount being spent.

Breitbart News also asked Newsom whether it was appropriate “to sign $50 million in spending to fight the Trump administration while also asking the ederal government for $40 billion in fire relief aid.”

Newsom said he would not have phrased the question that way, and said that California wished to spend an additional $25 million on lawsuits to “protect and preserve” its policies, based on its experience with the first Trump administration, when California filed one lawsuit after another against the White House.

California expected that experience to be “replicated.” He cited the example of high-speed rail, where Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy had announced an audit of the state’s spending on the project (which includes billions of dollars in federal funds). “We were prescient in that respect,” Newsom said, “in terms of putting those funds up in anticipation of efforts happening in the second Trump administration that happened in the first Trump administration.”

As for the $25 million for legal defenses for illegal aliens, Newsom said, “that is not specific to Trump” but was rather about “protecting people’s rights” .and paying non-profit organizations and other groups that help undocumented Californians “to address their anxieties and fears.”

No more giving away piles of money.

Show us the line item bills or expenditures, and, maybe, if you didn't waste it on Cali nonsense, the Federal Government will reimburse home owners, the state, and municipalities for the verified, audited expenses incurred.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
Hell no!

First - Newsom must pass legislation ending sanctuary anything before even entertaining any money for California.

2nd - he must stop any money intended to combat our POTUS.

3rd - he must remove the Mayor of LA from office for being completely derelict in her office.

4th - a mandatory 30% reduction in the workforce in CA, and avail themselves of a DOGE type audit to find additional
        savings

And 10 other things to begin bringing CA in shape
