California governor requests $40 billion for fire aid, Washington Post reports

(Reuters) - California Governor Gavin Newsom is asking Congress for nearly $40 billion in disaster funding to help Los Angeles recover and rebuild areas scorched by last month's devastating wildfires, the Washington Post reported on Friday citing a letter.

"It's going to take an all-hands-on-deck approach to rebuild from the devastating fires in LA," Newsom said in a post on social media platform X that tagged the report.
 
"I'm asking Congress to have the back of the American people and provide disaster funding to help Californians recover and rebuild as soon as possible," he said, confirming the letter first reported by the Washington Post.

The Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles and Altadena on the eastern flank of the metropolis were the sites of the worst of the January blazes. At least 29 people died in the fires that damaged or destroyed more than 16,000 structures.

I would trust a 13 year old girl with $40 billion more than I would trust Newsom or anyone in California.
Any money they get will be stolen and/or diverted to their pet illegals.

Any federal aid should be provided directly to those affected to make sure it isn't diverted to the DNC and their cronies.

The state should pay if anyone has to pay. They made it very difficult if not impossible to get homeowners insurance. The consequences of that shouldn't be spread out to the rest of the country that didn't go full leftist with price controls.

Nope.  Give us back the $16 billion we gave you wasted on the hi speed rail that was, and never will be built.  Then use the $50 billion allocated to stop Trump by the legislature to build up Los Angeles.

Oh, and what about the billions of state money used to help illegals in your state?
