Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird is investigating whether Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx violated state law by refusing to comply with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainment requests. Marx had asserted that his office would obstruct ICE actions if they are deemed unconstitutional, criticizing the use of non-judicial detainers as mere requests lacking the legal validity of warrants. Marx stated, "The only reason detainers are issued is because the federal agency does not have enough information or has not taken the time to obtain a valid judicial warrant."
