Peltier claims to be a political prisoner despite violent past

Leonard Peltier, the 80-year-old activist and "remorseless killer" who has been in prison for just shy of 50 years in connection with a 1975 ambush shooting that left two FBI agents dead on a South Dakota reservation, is headed home.

His first stop is expected to be a welcome home party at a reservation casino, according to the NDN Collective, an indigenous rights group, where supporters plan to celebrate his release from what they claim was a "wrongful incarceration."

"Today I am finally free," Peltier said in a statement thanking supporters released by the collective after he left a federal prison in Sumterville, Florida. "They may have imprisoned me, but they never took my spirit."

In one of his last moves in office, former President Joe Biden granted Peltier clemency over fiery objections from both former FBI Director Christopher Wray and the FBI Agents Association.

Biden proved to be very friendly to criminals, including murderers.  :nono:

I just happened to catch an old episode of "Forensic Files" on TV, and it was about the murder of a Missouri bank president by two brothers who duct-taped him to a chair, weighted it down, and threw it into a lake. Horrific.

Just found out Biden commuted the sentence of one of those heinous murderers.

President Biden commutes death sentence of man who killed Noel banker Dan Short in 1989
Shannon Agofsky was serving life in prison for the Noel crime, was convicted years later of killing a fellow inmate and received the death sentence, now commuted

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — President Biden commuted 37 death sentences including Shannon Agofsky, now 53, formerly of McDonald County, Mo.

He was convicted of the 1989 kidnapping of banker Dan Short from his Benton Co, Ark. home. He and his brother, Joe Agofsky, forced Short to open the State Bank of Noel safe — taking $70,000 — then dumping Short, chained to a chair still alive, into Grand Lake.

Shannon Agofsky was sentenced in 1992 to life in prison along with his accomplice brother. Shannon later killed an inmate while incarcerated in Texas and was sentenced to death in that case. Joe died in custody in 2013.

This means Shannon Agofsky will serve life in prison without parole for the death of an inmate.

Agofsky tops the full list of the 37 death row inmates who had their sentences reduced to life.

He is currently incarcerated at the Federal Prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.
