Sarah Palin: 'I'd Love to Serve' in Trump Administration
« on: February 16, 2025, 01:44:57 pm »
James Morley III    |   Saturday, 15 February 2025 02:31 PM EST

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin expressed frustration over not being asked to serve in the Trump administration, saying the president's "gatekeepers" are "tight."

Speaking to NewsNation's "On Balance With Leland Vittert" on Friday, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate said she's "frustrated" that she hasn't been asked to be a part of the administration.

"I thought that there would be a position in Energy in that Department, because that's my baby: wanting energy independence for America. You know, that's all about security and sovereignty of our nation is to be energy independent," Palin said. "But that hasn't happened."

The 2008 running mate of the late Sen. John McCain said she's been surprised that her background in an energy-rich state and national politics has kept her off the administration's short list.

"I didn't even get credentials to attend the GOP convention, if you can believe it," she added. "They're tight. They're tight.

"And I'm the only living Republican nominee who had run for VP or president who supported Trump. And even I couldn't get in. So, you know, yeah, they're pretty tight ... but I'd love to serve."

I think she would do fine in the right job. Somewhere in the Interior Department perhaps.

She sided with McCain; one of the worst RINO's ever and she ruined her reputation and her political career.

Well, Trump ought to find a place for her somewhere because in a lot of ways, she paved the way for his successful candidacy in 2016.  Remember the heady TEA Party days of 2009-2010, when she was the ONLY national Republican who was standing up to Obama, Pelosi and Reid. She also launched Cruz, Lee, and Rand Paul and the "mama grizzlies" into Congress with her endorsements and her rallies.

And remember the "Pizza Summit" between her and Trump in 2011?

Considering that the Democrats and Republican backstabbers destroyed her family and political career, she deserves a LOT more respect that she gets, especially as a former Republican VP candidate, and to be barred from the 2024 GOP Convention is simply a disgrace.

Perhaps somewhere behind the scenes dealing with energy policy.  It's sad: she was a decent governor and led a good fight against political corruption in Alaska, but somehow after being thrust onto the national stage, she came apart and decided that politics and reality TV were more or less the same thing.  (She might deserve thanks from Trump for that, since he perfected that view.)

Anyone who remembers that energy prices were the main campaign issue in 2008 before the financial crisis hit, can see why she seemed a good VP pick:  oil state governor with more foreign policy and defense experience than the typical governor thanks to her state being sandwiched between Canada and Russia.

Unfortuantely, she turned into a parody of her own campaign persona.  If she really want to work in government, put her somewhere in the back room away from TV cameras, unless she can win elective office in Alaska again.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

I really don't recall why McCain selected her other than the obvious; she is female, spoke conservatively, and did some good as governor of AK.

At the time that McCain selected her, I was certain that she would turn him down.  I thought as a conservative, how could she possibly accept his offer?

It was a huge mistake for her and cost her, her political career.  The spotlight then was beamed on her family and the outcome was a disaster for her.

I do recall a picture of her, Kid Rock, Ted Nugent in the oval office with Trump.  She hasn't been active politically lately so, I'm not so sure that their political relationship or friendship continued.

I didn't know that she was barred from the convention until now. However, there has to be a reason other than she fell out of popularity due to being associated with McCain???

Wow, so much time has passed, but you are correct she was very instrumental in the Tea Party and helped to launch a couple of political careers.

I grew weary of the drama surrounding her, not necessarily weary of her.

I can't think of a cabinet pick that's left that would be suitable for her.

:bingo:  IMHO McCain unfairly used her, and SHE paid the price. There are plenty of places she could be a valuable asset and would not require senate confirmation.

I really don't recall why McCain selected her other than the obvious; she is female, spoke conservatively, and did some good as governor of AK.

Because at the time, McCain's campaign was moribund and on life support, with almost nobody coming out to see him at campaign stops, and he needed somebody like her to infuse energy into it.  Remember how things suddenly took off when she joined the ticket and spoke at the 2008 GOP convention, with donations rolling in again, and tens of thousands of people going to her rallies (I attended the one in Shippensberg on October 25, 2008 and it was electric!)

Why would she turn him down?  It was the opportunity of a lifetime for an up and coming Republican governor, and McCain had not quite yet revealed his full liberal streak.  And plus, in 2008, it all about beating Obama!

I for one had seen enough of McCain's liberalism and as much as I liked Palin, I couldn't bring myself to pull the lever for the RINO. Both Obama and McCain were leading us down a path of destruction...Obama just a bit quicker, and in the end we would have wound up in the same spot.  I voted 3rd party.  The GOP didn't get the message though.

I grew weary of the drama surrounding her, not necessarily weary of her.

Well, that drama was largely caused by Obama's minions in Alaska (Pete Rouse, Anita Dunn, and the local Democrat hatchet people) trying to remove her as a threat to him in 2012, and they were successful.  In fact, she was one of the first well-known Republicans to be subjected the Democrat lawfare (along with Senator Ted Stevens and Governor Bob McDonnell in Virginia), which was perfected by Obama.  And they were wildly successful, tying her up with those 21 ethics complaints which nearly bankrupted the Palins (over $600,000) since under Alaska law, she was forced to pay for her own legal defense.  Remember when they even had her legal defense fund declared illegal?

Flashback:

Illegal Sarah Palin defense fund must give back donations

https://www.reuters.com/article/world/us-politics/illegal-sarah-palin-defense-fund-must-give-back-donations-idUSTRE65O0AG/

And the Republican Party even helped Obama destroy her:

Next for GOP leaders: Stopping Palin

https://www.politico.com/story/2010/10/next-for-gop-leaders-stopping-palin-044449

Quote
Top Republicans in Washington and in the national GOP establishment say the 2010 campaign highlighted an urgent task that they will begin in earnest as soon as the elections are over: Stop Sarah Palin.

Interviews with advisers to the main 2012 presidential contenders and with other veteran Republican operatives make clear they see themselves on a common, if uncoordinated, mission of halting the momentum and credibility Palin gained with conservative activists by plunging so aggressively into this year’s midterm campaigns.

I will never forgive them for this betrayal.

Her family problems telegraphed to me that she was a ticking time bomb... and I was right. It only got worse.... before the TDS there was PDS at FreeRepublic .... if you didn't worship the ground she walked on you were considered an outcast.... now you can't find a person there that remembers being such.

Well, in 2008, the only family problems they were having were with teenaged Bristol getting pregnant by Levi Johnston, who was co-opted by the local Democrats to turn and attack Sarah, and Sarah's own pregnancy with Trig, which became a particular obsession of Andrew Sullivan.

Andrew Sullivan's Trig Palin obsession

https://theweek.com/articles/493070/andrew-sullivans-trig-palin-obsession

Quote
Andrew Sullivan suspects that Sarah Palin may not have been entirely honest about the birth of her son Trig, and while The Atlantic blogger is not a lone voice on this issue, he is one of the few mainstream writers to give it such persistent consideration. Some of his fellow doubters argue that Trig — who has Down's Syndrome — is not really Palin's child, but her daughter Bristol's. Others believe Palin was simply lying about the circumstances surrounding his birth (particularly her claim that she was flown from Dallas to Anchorage while in labor). But even if Palin did bend the truth, asks Sullivan in a new column, why should we care? Because, Palin has "deliberately forced an infant with special needs into the bewildering public space," and used his birth to gain respect from her conservative Christian base. If she lied to do that, then what business does she have running for president? Here, an excerpt:

Remember how the media hounded them mercilessly and how Joe McGinniss even moved into the house next door to spy on them?

Sarah Palin Lashes Out at Journalist Joe McGinniss for Moving Next Door

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/sarah-palin-lashes-out-at-journalist-joe-mcginniss-for-moving-next-door/

Quote
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has long had a contentious relationship with the media, lashed out today against a writer she says has moved in next door while he writes a book about her.

Joe McGinniss, a non-fiction novelist known for works including the book The Selling of the President, an account of the 1968 Nixon presidential campaign, has rented a house next to Palin's Alaska home for about five months, Palin writes in a Facebook note.

"He moved up all the way from Massachusetts to live right next to us - while he writes a book about me," Palin writes. "Knowing of his many other scathing pieces of 'journalism' (including the bizarre anti-Palin administration oil development pieces that resulted in my Department of Natural Resources announcing that his work is the most twisted energy-related yellow journalism they'd ever encountered), we're sure to have a doozey to look forward to with this treasure he's penning. Wonder what kind of material he'll gather while overlooking Piper's bedroom, my little garden, and the family's swimming hole?"

Their family problems only exploded AFTER the 2008 election and the pressures brought on by the non-stop attacks to take her down over the next three years.  That was enough to destroy any marriage and family.

I recall there was more than enough drama for me to understand this was not an idea situation for the role she was running for. The oldest boy was already getting into fights, the abstinence position the daughter was given was a laughing joke. Sorry, but Palin cared more about position and power than her family IMHO... there was no balance in the equation.... Juggling a family requires time and guidance, and the father just seemed along for the ride like he had already been neutered in not being the head of the family.

I stand by my post... the cracks were there for the reading.  Plus I didn't like some of her performances as governor in relation to oil dividends to everyone.
