Canadian Hockey Fans Boo Their Future National Anthem

MONTREAL — Hockey fans of the soon-to-be 51st state of America booed when their future National Anthem was played last night.

In a seemingly prophetic outcome, the loser nation currently known as "Canada" then got absolutely smoked by their imminent conquerors.

"Boo! We like being euthanized and losing at hockey! Boo!" cried the Canadian fans. "We don't want to be a part of a country that actually wins Stanley Cups. Boo!"

The United States fans, for their part, found the booing rather adorable. "Aw, baby brother wants to fight," chuckled the gathered U.S. fans. "Honestly, we don't even know what hockey is in America, we just like beating Canada at the thing they care about most. It will be one final, delicious humiliation of Canada before we invade."

At publishing time, the American team had destroyed the Canadians so thoroughly that all of Canada begged Trump to just send the tanks and get it over with.

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Local man Dennis Walters finally realized that the reason people play hockey is because it allows them to legally punch a Canadian directly in the face.

Puzzled for years as to why people would skate around in freezing temperatures with little sticks, Walters found the answer last night as he watched members of the U.S. hockey team repeatedly punch Canadians in the face.

"It all makes sense now," said Walters. "I just never got the appeal before. I had no idea throwing on a hockey jersey meant you could legally beat up a Canadian. I mean, that dude just launched a Canadian's face into plexiglass at thirty miles per hour, and apparently that's totally acceptable. Freaking awesome."

According to sources, American interest in hockey exploded overnight after people realized they could whack Canadians with sticks. "Wow, sign me up," said local man Bob Denton. "Punching Canadians is totally my thing. I don't know about this whole skating business, but I would love to slug a guy from Quebec in the mouth."

At publishing time, millions across the globe had suddenly become hockey players in hopes of getting in on the Canadian punching.  .  .

Alex Ovechkin scored career goal No. 892 for the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, putting him three away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL record of 894.

The goal was a one-time scored at the end of a second period of a lopsided game against the Carolina Hurricanes, narrowing the deficit to 4-1. Jakob Chychrun and Dylan Strome both notched assists on the play.

Gretzky and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will both be in attendance at Capitals games from here on out to ensure they are present for Ovechkin's record-breaking goal.

Ovechkin's goal was his 39th of the season, inching him closer to the 14th 40-goal season of his 20-year NHL career. He's currently tied for third in goals scored this season and will likely come up short in his bid for a 10th Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy.

The Eastern Conference-leading Capitals have seven games to play in the regular season.  .  .  .

Oilers close out Kings in Game 6 to advance to second round

EDMONTON - Connor Brown had a goal and two assists as the Edmonton Oilers punched their ticket through to the second round of the playoffs with a wild 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Darnell Nurse, Zach Hyman and Trent Frederic each had a goal and an assist and Adam Henrique also scored for the Oilers.

Edmonton won four straight to take the best-of-seven series in six games. The Oilers will take on the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round.

Quinton Byfield, Brandt Clarke, Jordan Spence and Anze Kopitar replied for the Kings, who have now been booted by the Oilers in the first round in four consecutive seasons.  .  .  .

Jets’ Adam Lowry completes Game 7 comeback with 2OT winner

Jets captain Adam Lowry scored the game winning goal in double overtime to give his team the win over the Blues in Game 7.

The Winnipeg Jets forced overtime in Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues at the last possible moment. Cole Perfetti gave his team a chance to advance despite trailing 3-1 late in the third period. It took double overtime, but Jets captain Adam Lowry took full advantage of the chance Perfetti gave his team at the end of regulation.

The Jets cycled the puck around the ice in their offensive zone. It went behind the net before being distributed to defenseman Neal Pionk at the point. He rifled a shot that was tipped in front by Lowry. Lowry's deflection sent the puck past Blues goalie Jordan Binnington and in the back of the net.  .  .

Felt that it was another example of the team winning the President's Trophy for most points in the regular season being a curse in the playoffs.

LOL!  I had fallen asleep in my living room and had my cell phone on vibrate with television "off".

Called my buddy who had called and/or texted me EIGHT TIMES during the overtimes...which I always thought were 5 minute periods each.

Those players had to be dragging their asses.

In the meantime, same friend suggested the long layoff would be a detriment for the CAPS who don't play until Tuesday night.

Suggested that "momentum" doesn't affect hockey playoffs as in the others such as MLB, NFL or NBA, because of the necessary time for muscles and bruises to mend.

Maybe I'm wrong...but sure to find out!

CAPS are too slow compared to the rest of the field going forward. The other night the Hurricanes put almost 100 shots on goal!! Insane!!

I'm hoping the JETS lose their series vs DALLAS...proving once again the PRESIDENT'S TROPHY is meaningless in the playoffs.

How come you never see that many brothers playing hockey?

Now do you think it's easy to just gradually take over every professional sport? Let me tell you something, man. Brothers are starting to figure out this ice thing. Hope you enjoyed it

I think curling  and NASCAR is safe though.

Canada's only hope of winning the Stanley Cup now rests with Edmonton.  Their series with Dallas is tied at 1.  Florida is dominating the other side of the bracket.

Stuart Skinner and the Edmonton Oilers bounced back again, and go home even in the Western Conference final.

Skinner made 25 saves for his third shutout of the postseason, two nights after giving up five goals, Connor Brown scored after getting hit in the mouth by a skate and the Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 3-0 in Game 2 on Friday night in Dallas.

"We've shown it for many years now, just perseverance from our team, maturity, just the way that we do respond," Skinner said. "Like I said at the beginning of playoffs, it's a roller coaster. There's a lot of highs, lots of lows. Sometimes the score doesn't always tell everybody exactly how the game unfolded."

These Oilers overcame a 0-2 deficit in their first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings that cost Skinner his starting job before Calvin Pickard then got hurt.

And then there is Brown, who was bleeding after getting hit by the toe of Mikael Granlund's skate  .  .  .
