Judge restores Trump administration's buyout offer to federal workers
The decision came after the OPM offering buyouts to 2 million workers

Published February 12, 2025 6:15pm EST

A federal judge restored President Donald Trump's deferred resignation program for federal workers in a decision Wednesday evening.

U.S. District Judge George O’Toole of Massachusetts made the ruling.

The deferred resignation program, also known as the administration's "Fork in the Road" offer, involved asking government workers to either stay or leave after Trump mandated them to return to their offices shortly after his inauguration.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) emailed more than 2 million federal civilian employees offering them buyouts to leave their jobs.

Same Judge paused it but now lets the buyout continue.    Interesting.

Maybe he wasn't so squeaky himself, maybe he realized the issue is a loser, Constitutionally, and didn't want to be 'that judge'.

Approximately 75,000 federal workers have accepted the White House’s “deferred resignation” offer to take a buyout while still being paid through September, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

These are probably a bunch of people who can read the writing on the wall.

As agencies get eliminated and staffing reduced there are going to be 100's of thousands who wished they had taken the offer.

Make the buyout offer "sweeter".

Offer 12 months' pay PLUS a separation bonus of, say, $50,000.

Make this retroactive to those who already have accepted the previous offer.

And... no time limit. Keep 'em marchin' out the door!
