The U.S. Navy has taken significant steps to enhance its mine countermeasure capabilities by recently awarding multiple contracts aimed at improving the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Mission Package (MP) deployments.
This initiative falls under the Program Executive Office, Unmanned and Small Combatants (PEO USC), which oversees the development of advanced unmanned systems.
The MCM Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) is central to this effort, a diesel-powered craft designed for various operational launching platforms, including the LCS, vessels of opportunity, or even shore locations.
The USV’s modular design allows it to integrate diverse payload delivery systems intended for MCM tasks such as minesweeping, mine-hunting, and mine neutralization.
