Mitch McConnell, 83, Falls Down Stairs in Capitol Building

Wendell Husebo 5 Feb 2025

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fell down the stairs outside the Senate chamber Wednesday, where reporters watched the octogenarian regain his footing.

McConnell got up with the help of Sens. Steve Daines (R-MT) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and tried to walk it off.

McConnell also fell in December, continuing a pattern that raised alarms in 2023, leaving him with a hurt wrist, bruised hand, and bandages on his finger and face.

I can't stand him and he's caused a lot of the GOP's pain, but I do fell empathy for him.  Getting older and falling or having problems with balance and walking is a tough pill to swallow.

He does need to step down, perhaps the Senate is what keeps him going.

In other news, should Mitch die or retire, the Gov will not be able to appoint a replacement of his choosing.

Kentucky GOP lawmakers remove Democratic governor’s role in filling US Senate vacancies.
Quote
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Republican lawmakers in Kentucky on Friday removed the Democratic governor from any role filling future U.S. Senate vacancies — a move supporters said was unrelated to recent scrutiny about the health of the state’s senior senator, Republican leader Mitch McConnell.

The GOP supermajority Legislature easily overrode Gov. Andy Beshear’s veto of the measure. The legislation calls for a special election to fill any Senate vacancy from the Bluegrass State. The special election winner would hold the seat for the remainder of the unexpired term.

“The people should decide who a United States senator is by election always,” House Majority Floor Leader Steven Rudy, a Republican and the bill’s lead sponsor, said during a brief House debate Friday.

It's time, Mitch.  :seeya:  (Same thing Pelosi should have done when she fell down the steps and broke her hip: call it a career, and ride off into the sunset).

Not easy for sure, but the people of Kentucky need to retire the old boy before he seriously hurts himself, or more importantly, continues hurting this country

Pelosi Barely Able To Walk In Latest Public Appearance

Trending Politics News
By Chris Powell
February 6, 2025

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, was seen hobbling to her van Thursday, struggling to maintain her balance following hip replacement surgery. Pelosi, who fell on a marble staircase at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg last month, has been facing a difficult recovery.

The incident resulted in a fractured hip, requiring emergency surgery. While her spokesperson, Ian Krager, assured the public that Pelosi was receiving “excellent treatment” from medical professionals, her recent public struggles have reignited the national conversation about the advanced age of many in Washington’s political elite.

The sight of Pelosi—once known for navigating Capitol Hill in four-inch stilettos—now relying on crutches and wearing more practical footwear is a large contrast to her past image. Despite her evident physical limitations, Pelosi has maintained her stance that President Donald Trump is “unwell” and unfit for office, even as she faces increasing scrutiny over her own ability to serve effectively in her advanced years.

Pelosi’s injury follows a troubling trend among elderly members of Congress. The footage comes just one day after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), 82, reportedly suffered another fall and was seen leaving in a wheelchair.

I have said for many years that the U.S. Government is a Jenga pile of super-old people who are on the verge of passing the baton. Jenga pile means that once they start falling, they will all fall at once. Once the avalanche begins, half the government will be wiped out in a relatively short time.

No wonder all these old codgers hate the young. "THEY ARE IN THEIR TWENTIES! HARUMPH! HARUMPH AGAIN ... HARUMPH!" It is not 'hate' per-se, it is more a fear.
