I an't never seen anything remotely like what I have seen the short span of a few weeks. 

I can't keep up with it all.  The  caterwauling of the liberal rats is a wonderful thing

US States are supposed to follow Federal laws. If they don't do that, FedGov isn't bound to keep up its part of the deal either.

I doubt anybody every challenged him before a court.

IIRC they didn't sue.  I think TX AZ and a few other low population states were the last to comply to Jinnah's threat.

Congress did that.  The AG cannot constitutionally cut off monies appropriated by Congress for particular purposes unless the appropriation allowed discretion to the AG or President on how the funds were to be directed.  If, for instance, there was an appropriation that specified the DOJ distribute it to cities for some law-enforcement purpose, and it was specified that it be distributed according to some particular criterion (say population), the AG couldn't stop the flow of money.  If there is an appropriation that directs the DOJ to distribute money at the discretion of the AG for some purpose, then there's no basis for a constitutional challenge to cutting off funds to "sanctuary cities", provided they are spent elsewhere for the purposes Congress specified.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Thank you Rats for all the years of precedent that you can deny Federal funds for the silliest of violations. It makes it easy to deny funds for jurisdictions who exist in a state of illegality over immigration, the one big thing the FedGov has near plenary power over.

Attorney General Pam Bondi on her first day in charge put a freeze on Department of Justice funding to sanctuary cities, as Boston Mayor Michelle Wu got a date to testify before a Congressional oversight committee investigating sanctuary city policies.

Bondi, who was approved as AG on Tuesday evening, issued a day-one memo about sanctuary jurisdictions, as President Trump ramps up his illegal immigration crackdown.
