The Trump administration has placed two top security chiefs at the U.S. Agency for International Development on leave after they refused to turn over classified material in restricted areas to Elon Musk’s government-inspection teams, a current and a former U.S. official told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Members of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE, eventually did gain access Saturday to the aid agency’s classified information, which includes intelligence reports, the former official said.

Musk’s DOGE crew lacked high-enough security clearance to access that information, so the two USAID security officials — John Vorhees and deputy Brian McGill — were legally obligated to deny access.

The current and former U.S. officials had knowledge of the incident and spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to share the information.

Musk on Sunday responded to a post about the news on X by saying, “USAID is a criminal organization. Time for it to die.” The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Democrats reveal their hand.  The ONLY thing that matters is government slush funds they use to enrich themselves and secure their grip on power.  Republicans need to cut off the money now.   Defund USAID, and you will see some broke-ass Democrat candidates in the 2026 elections.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that he is now the acting director of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

During his five-nation trip to Central America, Rubio announced the development to reporters while taking questions from the press at a maintenance firm, Aeroman, in San Luis Talpa, El Salvador.

Rubio said his frustration with USAID goes back to his time in Congress, describing the agency as "completely unresponsive." It is supposed to respond to policy directives at the State Department "and it refuses to do so," the secretary said, adding: "there are a lot of functions of USAID that are going to continue, that are going to be a part of American foreign policy, but it has to be aligned with American foreign policy."

During his confirmation hearing, Rubio recalled, he said that "every dollar that we spend and every program that we fund will be aligned with the national interests of the United States, and USAID has a history of sort of ignoring that and deciding that they’re somehow a global charity separate from the national interest."
