NY Dems working to keep Stefanik's House seat vacant for months in latest scheme against Trump: assemblyman
'There's no doubt that Tammany Hall corruption is alive and well in the state capital,' NY GOP Assemblyman Matt Slater says

New York Democratic lawmakers are working to keep Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik's House seat vacant until the summer in an unprecedented move hashed out during late-night discussions last week, a Republican Empire State assemblyman told Fox Digital.

"We still haven't seen the final proposal from the Democrats in Albany, but there's no doubt that Tammany Hall corruption is alive and well in the state capital," Republican New York Assemblyman Matt Slater, who represents the state's 94th district in areas of Putnam and Westchester counties, told Fox News Digital in an exclusive Zoom interview on Sunday morning.

"It is just blatantly corrupt for the New York State Democrats to keep changing the rules of engagement simply out of self-interest. Meanwhile, New Yorkers are struggling in so many different ways. U-Haul just gave us our worst migration rating ever because there's so many New Yorkers who are fleeing this state. So they can get things done, but they only do it when it benefits them," Slater continued.

Slater, who serves as the ranking Republican on the state's Election Law Committee, was reacting to state Democrats working to introduce legislation that could keep Stefanik's House seat vacant until June, when the state holds its scheduled primary elections. Stefanik is in the midst of her confirmation process to serve in the Trump administration and is expected to resign her House seat if the Senate confirms her as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Taking back the House is the only way they can stifle the GOP agenda, other than using all those leftist judges Biden appointed.

They did this before, in 2010. When Eric Massa resigned, they were supposed to call a special election in 30-40 days. They waited six months.

A Sleazy State of Mind: NY Democrats Work to Game the System and Keep Elise Stefanik's House Seat Vacant
Bob Hoge

Democrats have oh-so-hurt feelings these days after they got thoroughly humiliated at the ballot box in November, losing the Oval Office, the House, and the Senate—and they should be upset because their whole poisonous ideology just got shot down like a rabid raccoon in Alabama.

If you were a decent person, you would take stock of where you went wrong, maybe look in the mirror and do some self-reflecting, but New York State Democrats are not known for their decency, so they have another plan: play dirty.

To wit, they’re trying to rig the system to ensure that Rep. Elise Stefanik’s House seat doesn’t get filled until this summer. She is expected to resign shortly if she is confirmed as President Donald Trump’s Ambassador to the United Nations.

In a state that wasn’t corrupt to its core, the seat would be filled by legal means worked out well in advance. But this is the Empire State, where things are done differently:

How about moving the UN out of NY?

A dated report indicates it contributes $3.7 billion in revenue for NYC

How about moving it to Brownsville, TX?

Next time you hear the Dem tears for the D.C.citizens not having representation in the Senate, remind them of what Stefanik's former congressional district is going thru.

'Authoritarian': Furious NY House Republicans send warning to Dem leaders in war over Stefanik seat
Letter led by New York Reps Mike Lawler, Nick Langworthy
By Elizabeth Elkind Fox News
Published February 3, 2025 7:00pm EST

FIRST ON FOX: Republicans in New York’s congressional delegation are up in arms over reports that state Democrat leaders are considering legislative routes to delay the special election to replace Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y.

The six GOP lawmakers signaled they would seek intervention from the Department of Justice (DOJ) if the alleged legislative maneuver runs afoul of federal law.

"Your clear attempt at playing political games to limit Republican numbers in the House of Representatives is overreaching, corrupt, and undemocratic," reads a letter led by Reps. Mike Lawler and Nick Langworthy.

"We demand you cease any and all such attempts to change this law, and in preparation of this conspiratory, corrupt act that clearly threatens the constitutional rights of American citizens, we will also be alerting the Department of Justice."

The letter was also signed by New York Republican Reps. Nicole Malliotakis, Nick LaLota, Andrew Garbarino and Claudia Tenney.

Their pressure on New York’s Democrat leaders is backed by House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., who told "Fox & Friends" on Monday morning, "This is open political corruption by state officials in New York."

"They're going to try to disenfranchise over 750,000 New Yorkers who live in that 21st District. It's unconscionable," he said.

New York lawmakers in the state Senate and Assembly met last week to discuss a rules change that could keep Stefanik’s seat empty until at least June, according to the New York Post.

Stefanik was tapped to be President Donald Trump’s U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and is expected to easily pass a Senate confirmation vote. She and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz’s departure from Congress leave the House with a razor-thin GOP majority, leaving no room for Republican dissent to pass any legislation without Democrat support.

The letter noted that Stefanik could be confirmed "as early as this week," which would leave residents of New York’s 21st Congressional District without representation in the House until the seat is filled.

So much for Democrats supporting democracy.  Liars!
