Police: Baby dies after placed on Jacksonville road and run over by father

An 8-month-old baby died after being hit by a car when left in the street at a Jacksonville intersection Saturday morning.

The child and a woman were passengers in a GMC Terrain driven by a man at about 10:40 a.m. at McDuff Avenue and Lenox Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The couple got into an altercation inside the vehicle and while stopped at the intersection, the driver opened the door and placed the baby on the road. He then began to drive off and struck the child, the Sheriff's Office said.

A witness said she was behind the vehicle stopped at the light and saw a female get out and walk away. Then the man placed something on the road and slowly closed the driver's door before leaving, according to a police report released Monday.  .  .  .
