Trump says he ordered airstrikes on ISIS leaders in Somalia
The president said the strikes killed a senior ISIS attack planner

Published February 1, 2025 1:37pm EST

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he ordered military airstrikes in Somalia, taking out a senior ISIS attack planner and other terrorists he recruited.

"These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump said that the strikes destroyed the caves they were living in and did not "in any way" harm civilians.

"Our Military has targeted this ISIS attack planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did!" Trump wrote.

The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that "WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!"

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.

Yay, so Trump's bombing Somalia now!  I thought that he was supposed to be ending overseas "forever wars."

Well, if he took out a top leader and his lieutenants, that's a long way from sending billions of dollars worth of equipment and thousands of troops. Recall, he got Solemani also, with a targeted strike aimed at a specific leader. I do not see this leading to a 'forever war', except that someone else will step up to fill the role of the target, possibly requiring a follow up mission.

Any action taken to reduce the effectiveness of terrorist organizations like ISIS is fine by me, but these surgical strikes eliminate the people who make those organizations while posing only moderate risk to our Armed Forces Personnel.

I would far rather see this type of operation over taking a chance that even more Americans would be mutilated by IEDs or shot on the battlefield. We have the aircraft, and the personnel to keep our troops safer and still get results.

Either that, or send them all pagers.

Righto, tis the correct diplomacy.  Shoot first and ask questions later.  May get lucky and get the Iran bagman too instead of just the surrogate.
