As The House Committee on Education and Workforce pointed out on their X account, Fong was informed of fraud in the Feeding Our Future program, a $250 million scheme that took funds from hungry children and refused to act.

Despite her failures and complicity in corruption, she felt entitled to her position until finally being escorted out.

That was a common response on poultry farms back in the 1970s. If birds in a barn got sick and died, the whole group on that barn was eliminated (often thousands of birds), the barn was sanitized, and new chicks brought in. Chicken and turkey 'ranchers' were very careful about not cross contaminating the different barns.


Looking back, though, they may have eliminated possible immune birds at the same time, ones which could have been bred to produce resistant lines.

Have a good friend who contracted with Conagra to raise chickens in the 90's.  This edict almost ran him out of business.

Most of the farmers I met were with Mar-vel or Rockingham, back in the day. A couple of them took nasty hits before they got suits, footbaths, and enclosed decontamination showers at the entrances to the barns. Might have reminded you of The Andromeda Strain, but it worked, and their profits went up.

How long does it take for chicks to mature and produce eggs?  Less than a year?

Seems like insurance coverage would minimize the financial setbacks until "normal" production reappears.   :shrug:

Great point.  There is no herd immunity when you purposely kill off the entire herd.

WASHINGTON, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Security agents escorted the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Agriculture out of her office on Monday after she refused to comply with her firing by the Trump administration, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Phyllis Fong, a 22-year veteran of the department, had earlier told colleagues that she intended to stay after the White House terminated her Friday, saying that she didn’t believe the administration had followed proper protocols, the sources said.
 
In an email to colleagues on Saturday, reviewed by Reuters, she said the independent Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency “has taken the position that these termination notices do not comply with the requirements set out in law and therefore are not effective at this time.”
