I applaud him.  Congress  needs to expeditiously pass legislation for $$ and a border wall that he can sign.

Legal Insurrection by Mary Chastain 1/29/2025

“Some of them are so bad, we don’t even trust the countries to hold them because we don’t want them coming back. So we’re going to send them out to Guantanamo.”

President Donald Trump told the Pentagon and DHS to use Guantanamo Bay to hold 30,000 criminal illegal aliens.

“I hereby direct the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security to take all appropriate actions to expand the Migrant Operations Center at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to full capacity to provide additional detention space for high-priority criminal aliens unlawfully present in the United States, and to address attendant immigration enforcement needs identified by the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security,” according to the memo, sent by email.

Trump announced the move before he signed the Laken Riley Act into law, which mandates the government detain illegal aliens “charged with theft or burglary.”

I'm going to ask what I'm sure is a very naive question. If people are just charged and not convicted...can this happen"?

Not that I'm against sending them to Guantanamo...just curious.

Keep in mind @berdie that these criminals are the worst of the worst.  My understanding is that instead of deporting them they are going to Gitmo.  They likely have a record of multiple crimes. I believe Trump stated something to the effect that deporting them back to their country they will likely come back in, so off the go.

Secondly and this is just my opinion -- they are NOT U.S. citizens, so they don't have rights under the Constitution, nor do they have the right to a fair trial. They are here ILLEGALLY -- they've already broken the law period.

I can't shout this loudly enough .... WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO CONTINUE ERECTING THE WALL?????

"Trump Orders Guantanamo Bay to Hold 30,000 Criminal Illegal Aliens"

Sounds like he's picked up on the example set by the guy in El Salvador, who built a specialized "forever prison" for the gang bangers there.

And that sounds GOOD to me.
Lock 'em up.
Throw away the keys.

Civil liberties?
That's for American citizens.
These illegals aren't, and they deserve none.

Sorry if you don't like this post.

I agree with what you say @libertybele. My question is the legality of sending them for indefinite detention at Gitmo if they are charged but not convicted. Seems like there might be some legal hurdles? I also agree that they shouldn't have rights since they are here illegally to begin with, but I think they do. Like the illegals that commit murder...we can't just go out and hang 'em high. They have trials, etc.

The last jury I sat on was two illegals. One stabbed the other. In addition to legal representation they required 2 interpreters. A county expense. Plus the time of the jury, judge and all concerned.  9999hair out0000

Much of this could simply be about scaring the crap out of these people so that they self deport.

The United States and Cuba agree that Guantanamo Bay is part of Cuba’s sovereign territory; this fact places Guantanamo Bay within the geographic space where Cuba has international legal obligations.

Yet the area has been controlled by the United States since a 1903 lease agreement suspended Cuba’s active involvement there.

It is important to assess whether Cuba is drawn back into a position of legal responsibility if human rights abuses occur at Guantanamo Bay because only then can we have a full sense of the consequences of such acts for both nations that create and maintain a leased territory where the normal exercise of state authority is altered.

Many such territories exist around the world.

There are certainly a large number of them, like the Argentine gangs and others that qualify as terrorists, I suggest he designates all of the gangs as well as the cartels as terrorists and then dumps their @$$es in GITMO….or the territorial waters of whatever shithole they came from, preferably shark infested waters.

Trump plans to deport some illegals to Guantanamo Bay in massive expansion of detention facilities
01/30/2025 // Lance D Johnson // 810 Views

President Trump announces plans to expand Guantanamo Bay detention facilities to house up to 30,000 deported migrants.

The move is part of Trump’s aggressive immigration crackdown, targeting undocumented individuals accused of theft and violent crimes.

Guantanamo Bay, infamous for its history of indefinite detentions and human rights abuses, will now serve as a holding center for “the worst criminal illegal aliens.”

Trump claims the facility is necessary because some countries cannot be trusted to hold deported individuals, ensuring they do not return to the U.S.

The administration is preparing to use military planes for deportation flights and threatening sanctions against countries refusing to accept deportees.

Critics condemn the plan as a violation of human rights and an escalation of Trump’s draconian immigration policies.

Troops arrive at Guantanamo Bay to prepare migrant detention center
By Riley Ceder

Marines with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, arrive at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, over the weekend. (Jovi Prevot/U.S. Navy)
Service members arrived over the weekend at Guantanamo Bay, where they’ll work to prepare the Navy base in southeast Cuba for an influx of deported migrants.

Marines with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division boarded a KC-130J at Cherry Point Air Station in North Carolina on Sunday and departed for Naval Station Guantanamo Bay. There, they joined personnel from U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Army South, bringing the total number of service members deployed to the base for the migrant holding operation to 150.

The Marines and soldiers will provide support for a White House plan to deport immigrants lacking permanent legal status from the United States and detain them at the base. This comes as part of a sweeping effort by President Donald Trump, announced Jan. 29, to use Guantanamo as a holding ground for “high-priority criminal aliens.”

Trump said he was directing an expansion of a detention center on the naval base to hold up to 30,000 migrants.
