 Air Force shaving waivers will soon expire under new policy

The Air Force will soon require airmen and Space Force guardians with medical profiles for shaving to be evaluated every year by a healthcare professional to renew their waivers, according to an Air Force memo shared on social media.

The change represents a rollback of the waivers, which since 2020 have been issued for five years without annual renewals.
 
An Air Force official confirmed to Task & Purpose that the memo is authentic. A second official insisted the move is not connected with the service’s recent decision to dissolve its Barrier Analysis Working Groups, which had advocated for Black airmen with painful shaving conditions to be allowed to grow beards.

In a 2023 study, about 64% of respondents to a survey of Air Force members who had medical shaving waivers were Black, compared to about 16% of the entire Air Force.

The clean-shavenness fetish in the American military is just that, a fetish.  There are perfectly competent militaries the world over that include bearded men.  In the 19th century most notable American military figures had facial hair.  Sikhs have traditionally be ferocious and loyal warriors and are required by their religion to wear beards.  The excuse of gas-masks is out-dated since a modern chemical weapons environment would require full CBW suits.  Getting rid of pointless regulations is a boon to business, ordinary life, and military preparedness, and the clean-shaven regulation is a pointless regulation.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Fine, let them do what I do, nearly clean shaven. I usually have a beard, but when I shave it off, it is just with clippers at close range... basically next to clean shaven.

I think this would deter a lot of covert Muslims from interfiling the military.
