Trump’s Blow to Federal DEI Programs Places Hundreds of Bureaucrats on Leave, Slashes $420M in Contracts

Katherine Hamilton 26 Jan 2025

President Donald Trump’s executive order ending all federal DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) programs has already resulted in 395 government bureaucrats being placed on leave, a senior administration official told Fox News Digital.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Trump’s new department headed by Elon Musk, said on Friday that an estimated $420 million in current and impending contracts, mostly focused on DEI, have been canceled.

Prior to being inaugurated, Trump vowed to end former President Joe Biden’s “diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates,” and “return our country to the merit system.” On his first day as president, he issued an executive order ending the “radical and wasteful government DEI programs and preferencing.”

In the first 80 hours, approx $420M of current/impending contracts have been cancelled. 2 leases have also been cancelled.

Initial focus is mainly on DEI contracts and unoccupied buildings.

The sidelined bureaucrats and slashed programs come after the federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a memo following Trump’s executive action, ordering all federal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) employees to be placed on paid leave by 5:00 p.m. on January 22 as the offices and programs started to close down.

In a post on X, Ed O’Keefe, a senior White House and political correspondent with CBS News, revealed that the U.S. OPM had issued a memo addressed to the heads and acting heads of departments and agencies within the government that each agency and department head should “take prompt actions regarding the offices and agency sub-units focusing exclusively on DEIA initiatives and programs.”

It's a start!

Any former employees that want to continue working for the govt can find openings with ICE & CPB.

It's a new day.

We are way past the time when we can let personal animus oppose doing the right things.

If we don't get back to common sense now I don't think we ever will.

common sense is to know history and do not repeat your failures.

Best done by repetition.

And by admission of error by those who chose poorly.

Then one moves forward with knowledge.

Oh, and BTW, I remain mad as hell at almost losing due to people like that as this country was close to being lost forever.

Well there's a list of people to be mad at, then. Start with they lying media, move on to the people who would stand in front of cameras and perpetrate the lies, the university professors who taught them, the stockholders who continue to support them, and the people who won't speak out when they see wrong being done...

I don't hate anyone, but I pray that half of this country comes to its senses, because the battle is far from over. It's a marathon, not a sprint. What's being done now is a band-aid, a finger in the dike, not the fixes we desperately need, only a taste of what could be.
I'm  more interested in results than who does them.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Agree the war is far from over and victories need to still be won in hard-fought battles.

We know who the real enemy is.  I just get disgusted by 'useful idiots' like Murkowski or McConnell, or by those who refuse to fight to return sanity to this country and instead to choose to simply sit on the wayside watching. They should know better. @Smokin Joe
