Time Magazine Releases New Cover Ahead Of Trump Inauguration

Time magazine has released its new cover ahead of the second inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, which is scheduled for Monday afternoon in the Capitol Rotunda.

Amidst a stormy backdrop, the issue shows the president-elect taking a seat in the Oval Office alongside the words “He’s Back.” Trump can be seen brushing a stack of papers off the Resolute Desk, along with a pair of President Biden’s signature Aviator sunglasses.

The new cover is a callback to the magazine’s cover from January 2017, which featured the newly-inaugurated President Trump sitting at the desk with his hands folded while a storm rages inside and outside the Oval Office.



Both covers attempt to cast a negative image of the president-elect, particularly the 2017 issue, which was meant to convey his first term as chaotic and disorganized. This time around, Trump appears more experienced and eager to get off to a fast start. The storm outside suggests that the magazine has not yet deviated from the gloomy, dark coverage of the Trump Administration that has plagued mainstream media outlets over the past decade.

Pro-Trump X users largely reacted positively to the cover, even if the outlet was intending to portray Trump as an ominous figure. Media outlets have repeatedly released covers and cartoons meant to portray the president in a negative light, only for the effort to backfire.
