Host Blasts Voters for 'Giving Up on Democracy,' Embracing 'Authoritarianism'

Jonathan Capehart's resume reads like a who's who of left-wing quackery. The Washington Post associate editor, co-host of "Brooks and Capehart" on "PBS NewsHour," and host of "The Saturday/Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart" on MSNBC is as detached from political reality as they come.
 

The hack "journalist" clearly illustrated "all of the above" during the Biden era’s final installment of "Brooks and Capehart" on Friday.

After David Brooks, also a New York Times columnist, asserted that President-elect Donald Trump's decisive election win over Vice President Kamala Harris showed that President Joe Biden failed to protect democracy in America, Capehart went full-metal Hillary Clinton and Biden, arguing that Trump's win was fueled by voters who "gave up on democracy" and instead chose to "try this authoritarianism.”

#ProTip for future Democrat candidates:

Unlike Hillary, who infamously referred to Trump supporters as "a basket of deplorables" during the 2016 presidential campaign, and Biden upping the game by calling Trump loyalists "garbage" in 2024, it's probably not a good idea to ridicule half of America for supporting your opponent. Just sayin'.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Time for him to cut back on whatever he might be ingesting for 'enhanced insight'. He is seeing things that simply aren't there.


As for "authoritarianism" from COVID onward, there was an awful lot of that that was voted against as soon as it could be.
He might note that the up and coming office holder in the White House undeniably won the popular vote, too. This IS 'democracy' in action.

He's using the word democracy the way Democrats always do, not to mean rule by the δῆμος, to mean rule by Democrats.  So he's half right, the electorate gave up on democracy.  The notion that Trump represents authoritarianism, however, is nonsense on stilts.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.
