The Japanese called their intercontinental weapons "fusen bakudan" -- trans-Pacific balloon-delivered firebombs riding the trans-Pacific jet stream and targeting the U.S. West Coast in late 1944 and 1945.

That the "Fu-Go" offensive occurred and that it failed to do any significant damage are historical facts.

However, 2025's Los Angeles wildfires and their estimated $150 billion in damage suggest Japanese strategists had a conceptually valid offensive combat operation.

For the record, one balloon landed in the ocean just off San Pedro, California. San Pedro is South LA. San Pedro hasn't caught fire -- yet.

As mentioned, possibly a land grab to promote the "15 minute city" and de-whitification of whole neighborhoods in the name of diversity.
Reverse gentrification.
Throwing our allegiances to political parties in the long run gave away our liberty.

How about the history of stupid politicians running CA?

This was a Cluster-F at every level of government, Federal, State, County of LA, and City of LA.

The State of California shut down the brush-clearing effort by the County of LA in Topanga Canyon State Park, which adjoins Pacific Palisades.

The Federal government didn't clear brush in Angeles National Forest, near Altadena and Sylmar.

The County and City mismangled firefighting assets, from water to trucks to personnel. Whether those assets could be equal to be meaningful against the raging wildfires driven by days-long near-hurricane-force Santa Ana winds is very doubtful.

For all the glaringly emotive symbols - Mayor Bass, Goobernor Noisome - the highest priorities should be ass-kicking Federal and state agencies into clearing brush and dead trees and emasculating the Enviro-agencies and Enviro-groups who hinder/block those efforts.

I "get" the appeal of CTs, and that 1 in a thousand or million turn out to be sort of in the right ballpark, but the idea that 10s (100s?) of thousands of Federal, State, County, and City people would be in on some sort of grand land-grab conspiracy is just absurd.

It really wouldn't take all of those folks being in on anything. A few key people telling the rest what to do (or not do) is enough, and everyone else complies or loses their jobs. That isn't saying there is some big conspiracy here, just that it would require far fewer moving parts to have one.
