Vivek Ramaswamy emerges as a surprise prospect for Vance's old Senate seat
Ramaswamy, who had removed himself from consideration after Trump tapped him for another job, recently met with Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, who will choose Vance's successor.

CLEVELAND — Vivek Ramaswamy, the biotech entrepreneur slated to help oversee President-elect Donald Trump’s effort to cut government spending, is in discussions about filling Vice President-elect JD Vance’s Senate seat in Ohio, two people briefed on the process told NBC News.

The development is a reversal for Ramaswamy, who in November said his work alongside billionaire Elon Musk at Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency would remove him from consideration for the Senate job.

But Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, who will appoint an interim successor to take over Vance's seat, chatted with Ramaswamy about the Senate vacancy during a meeting last weekend at the governor’s mansion in Columbus, according to a source familiar with the talks. The source, who was granted anonymity to share details about private conversations, also said that Trump has encouraged Ramaswamy to accept the appointment if DeWine offers it.

Trump’s Pick For Vacant Senate Seat Is Revealed

Trending Politics News

A high-stakes decision looms in Ohio as political insiders speculate on who will fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by JD Vance’s move to the Trump administration. Among the names circulating is biotech entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who is reportedly being encouraged by President-elect Donald Trump to step into the role.

Ramaswamy, the biotech entrepreneur and former Republican presidential hopeful has drawn Trump’s attention, who is said to be quietly encouraging him to take on the role. While the final decision rests with Governor Mike DeWine, Trump’s endorsement could carry substantial influence in a state where his political clout remains unparalleled.

Two sources familiar with the situation, who spoke to The Washington Post and requested anonymity to discuss private matters, revealed that Trump has suggested to Ramaswamy that he should consider taking the vacant Senate seat in Ohio if it is offered to him. This comes on the heels of Ramaswamy’s high-profile appointment to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Elon Musk, a role he has yet to assume officially.

In November, Ramaswamy publicly declined consideration for the Senate seat after Trump appointed him to co-lead DOGE. However, he has recently resurfaced as a top candidate for the Senate position. According to The Post, he is currently engaged in advanced talks with GOP leaders about the role. Ramaswamy was born and raised in Cincinnati and comes from an immigrant family with roots in Kerala, India. His background in Ohio has shaped much of his personal and professional life, contributing to his sense of identity and community ties within the state.

There's been some chatter about how Vivek hasn't been very visible lately. Don't know whether anyone speculated a potential Senate seat was the reason.
I agree,  @libertybele  - not the right choice.

Correct. He would be one of 100, let him work with Elon.

The replacement is chosen by the Governor, the Legislature, or the People of Ohio, not the President.

Trump is not king ... yet.

Trump's selections and backing as of late have carried a lot of weight.

Sorry @libertybele but I think Vivek would make a great senator for Ohio. As someone mentioned above, one of a hundred and, I think, a reliable conservative vote in that body.

As I've stated before, Vivek, like Obama is IMHO a 'player'.  He says what people want to hear. Try checking on his background in his earlier years; it pretty much starts around the time of Soros' fellowship. Like Obama not a whole lot is known about him and all of a sudden people seated him in the Senate.  We're still living with the results of that disaster. I see a similar disaster with Vivek down the road if he manages to get seated in the Senate.

Both Vivek's parents were not her legally at the time of his birth.

Vivek's start up company was 'Strive' the same firm IIRC that Soros lent $$ to Trump's son-in-law; Kushner. That doesn't set well with me.  Trump once again will be utilizing a member of the Kushner family in his administration. That doesn't set well with me either and has always been and always will be a point of contention.

In 2015, Ramaswamy raised $360 million for the Roivant subsidiary Axovant Sciences in an attempt to market intepirdine as a drug for Alzheimer's disease..................in short it failed ..... in 2017, Roivant partnered with CITIC Private Equity of the Chinese state-owned CITIC Group to form Sinovant. In 2017, Ramaswamy struck a deal with Masayoshi Son in which SoftBank invested $1.1 billion in Roivant. In 2019, Roivant sold its stake in five subsidiaries (or "vants"), including Enzyvant, to Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma; Ramaswamy made $175 million in capital gains from the sale. The deal also gave Sumitomo Dainippon a 10% stake in Roivant..

He not only has connections with Soros but connections with the Chinese in some capacity.

Sorry -- he may say everything conservatives want to hear, but I do not trust him.  He's another Obama. He's slick, charismatic  and the only thing I really see him good for is a chewing gum commercial.

Just my opinion.

FWIW, Gov. Dewine is no Trump fan. Even if DJT has endorsed Vivek, Dewine may have other ideas.

Vivek would just be finishing the remainder of Mr. Vance's term, is that correct?
Are we talking two, perhaps four years?

Might give him a chance to prove himself as being more than just someone who talks a good talk...

Lt. Gov. Jon Husted's name has been bandied about. We could do a lot worse.
