US Army plans 460 mph speeding spy jet to launch drones at 41,000 feet
The United States Army Contracting Command Redstone Arsenal is seeking opinions from the defense industry on Launched Effects (LE) or unmanned aerial vehicles which can be integrated into an aerial intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platform (A-ISR) platform.
A request for information (RFI) issued by the US Army reveals that the LE will potentially be integrated on medium/high altitude and higher airspeed platforms.
The UAV or drone will likely be integrated with the Bombardier G6500 AC aircraft. The Army has also stated that the LE system should be compatible with the aforementioned aircraft.
It seems that the Army is looking to increase its operational range and add more capabilities to its long-range ISR aircraft. It can also be thought of as an attempt to further improve the capabilities of the High Accuracy Detection and Exploitation System (HADES) program.
