Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said he thinks Democrats have been "so hypocritical" when they say Hegseth is not qualified to lead the Defense Department.

"How many senators have shown up drunk to vote at night? Don't tell me you haven't seen it, because you have," the senator said. "How many senators do you know have gotten divorced for cheating on their wives?"

"Did you ask for them to step down? No, it's for show," said Mullin. "It's ridiculous."

Mullin then asked Hegseth if he'd be willing to delegate duties where he did not have the expertise to lead them.

Hegseth responded: "Senator, the only reason I've had success in life to include, I wonder if my wife is because of people more capable around me, and having the self-confidence to empower them and say, hey, run with the ball, run with the football, take it down the field. We'll do this together. I don't care who gets the credit. And in this case, that's how the Pentagon will be run."

Dem senator's 'lies and stupidity' at Hegseth hearing roasted on social media: 'Clown show'

Social media users are criticizing a Democratic senator for claiming that Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth would lead a military invasion of Greenland if nominated.

The critiques came during Pete Hegseth's confirmation hearing, where lawmakers were given the opportunity to question Trump's pick for Defense secretary.

One Democrat in particular, Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, caused a firestorm of social media reactions after asking Hegseth whether he would invade Greenland or take over the Panama Canal.

"Trump never strategically tips his hand. I would never publicly state one way or another to direct the orders of the president," Hegseth responded.

Hirono also claimed that Trump ordered guards to "shoot protesters in the legs" during a protest at Layfayette Square in Washington D.C. in 2020, and asked if Hegseth would carry out such an order.

"I was in the Washington, D.C. National Guard unit that was in Lafayette Square during those events, holding a riot shield on behalf of my country," Hegseth said. "I saw 50 Secret Service agents get injured by riot agents."

Brigette Gabriel, ACT for America founder and chairman, wrote that "Mazie Hirono might be the least intelligent Member of Congress, and that's saying something."

"This line of questioning is unbecoming of her position as a United States Senator," Gabriel said on X.

"Clown show," wrote Eric Daughtery, Assistant News Director of Florida's Voice.

I don’t have legs because regimental and division level rules of engagement would not allow us to bomb a building full of enemy bombs. Instead we had to enter an enemy held village on foot (and without tanks or artillery). The operation resulted in multiple casualties that could’ve been avoided with a surprise airborne and artillery fired munitions attack prior to entering the village.

Connecticut Attorney General and leading Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Richard Blumenthal never served in Vietnam -- a revelation that contradicts a central claim in Blumenthal's political narrative, according to a new report.

A New York Times investigation found that Blumenthal received at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and records show he enlisted in the Marine Reserve -- a move that "virtually guaranteed that he would not be sent to Vietnam," according to the Times.

The military record also suggests Blumenthal made every effort to avoid going to war, the Times found. The embarrassing findings are fully against what has become an accepted belief about the State's top prosecutor: That he served as a Marine Sgt. during the war.

“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Blumenthal said to a pro-military group at an event in Norwalk in March 2008, the Times reported. “And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support.”

She's definitely giving Patty Murray a strong challenge here.  Hirono essentially asks Hegseth if he will resign if he takes a drink of any alcoholic beverage at any time over the next four years.  I wonder what her position might be on President Trump if cocaine is found inside the White House over the next four years.
