2 New Ford-Class Aircraft Carriers Will Be Named After Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush

The White House announced Monday that the Navy will name the two latest Ford-class aircraft carriers after former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

The future USS William J. Clinton and the future USS George W. Bush will become the fifth and sixth ships of the Ford class -- the class of ships that is slated to eventually replace the venerable Nimitz-class carriers that are in operation today.
 
"When I personally delivered the news to Bill and George, they were deeply humbled," Biden said in the statement released by the White House.
 

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the Pentagon was "honored" by the choice of names.

I'm uncertain about the wisdom of naming one after a philandering liar who lied to the American people wagging his finger and saying he did not have sex with that woman?  And then pleaded no-contest to obstructing justice, I think the charge was. :shrug:

I generally dislike naming U.S. Navy ships after modern political figures and presidents.  The Navy should just stick to tradition and use the classic names like Essex, Franklin, Ranger, Constellation, Eagle, Hornet, Midway, Bunker Hill, Enterprise, etc.

I was aboard the 7th ship to be named Ranger.  The first was commanded by John Paul Jones and it was flying the American flag as it sailed into France and was the first to be recognized as the flag of a new nation.  I too like the traditional ways of naming ships and naming them after other people is the woke way of destroying US Navy and, thus, American traditions.
