Report: Florida AG Ashley Moody likely choice to replace Sen. Marco Rubio Another member of the Florida governor’s cabinet could be announcing their departure. Politico reports that Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is the likely choice to replace Sen. Marco Rubio, who has been tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to be Secretary of State.
Moody is a Plant City native who has gone from a commercial attorney to federal prosecutor, to the youngest judge in Florida at 31 years old, and now the attorney general of Florida since 2019.

Moody was in Central Florida on Thursday announcing new numbers relating to the state’s fight against the fentanyl crisis.
“I was the first AG to push to make fentanyl labeled a weapon of mass destruction, as well as designating these transnational criminal organizations that seek to do our citizens harm foreign terrorist organizations,” Moody said.
While in Lake County, Moody said there were 800 fewer opioid-related deaths last year compared to the year prior.
USF Emeritus Political Science Professor Darryl Paulson said it’s not only Moody’s fast-track climbing the ladder and her work that makes her the likely choice for a job on Capitol Hill, but she has also been an ally to both Gov. Ron DeSantis and President-elect Trump.
“She opposed the 2020 election results and tried to get those overturned. She opposed the Affordable Care Act, which is the Obamacare legislation,” Paulson said. “She opposed the legalization of recreational marijuana.”
While in Tampa this week, DeSantis wouldn’t confirm who is at the top of the list to replace Rubio, but he knows what he wants out of the next senator.
“We have to deliver on the mandate the voters gave President Donald Trump,” DeSantis said. “We have got to have somebody who’s going to be strong on immigration.”.............
