U.S. applications for unemployment benefits fell to their lowest level in nearly a year last week, pointing to a still healthy labor market with historically low layoffs.

The Labor Department on Wednesday said that applications for jobless benefits fell to 201,000 for the week ending January 4, down from the previous week's 211,000. This week's figure is the lowest since February of last year.

The four-week average of claims, which evens out the week-to-week ups and downs, fell by 10,250 to 213,000.

The overall numbers receiving unemployment benefits for the week of December 28 rose to 1.87 million, an increase of 33,000 from the previous week.

  • Well EXCUSE me!
So, people running out of benefits and dropping off the rolls? To be followed by a brief upswing in new jobs, until they are qualified to receive unemployment again…why? Because that’s what the democrats have trained people to do.

Yup.  Except during the Obummer years, UE bennies end after a set time.

It's also seasonal employment. Shipping picks up around the holidays every year, and around here the ski resorts begin hiring.

It's decent temporary work for a few weeks, but let's face it... it's not a permanent landing spot for the people in jobs that, for instance, AI is eliminating. The Postal Service temp jobs don't even get you a foot in the door for future employment.

I think you are right, at least the first part.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
