Congressional Republicans revive Trump-backed SAVE Act

Congressional Republicans in both chambers are expected to revive the bipartisan "Safeguard American Voter Eligibility" (SAVE) Act, which has been supported by President-elect Donald Trump.

The House passed the bill last year, but the legislation stalled in the Democrat-controlled Senate after the chamber passed a different spending bill that did not include the act.

The SAVE Act requires voters to show proof of citizenship before voting in a U.S. election. Although only American citizens are already allowed to vote in federal elections, Republicans claim illegal immigrants could mistakenly register to vote when obtaining a driver's license or other benefits, per Fox News.

This can't be about the act itself!  It makes absolutely no sense to pass that legislation while Biden can still veto it, instead of waiting until Trump is sworn in, which would be my guess as to why they are in such a hurry.  It would be great PR for voters if Biden vetoed it. :yowsa:

There's not a chance -- as in ZERO -- that this gets through the Senate so long as the filibuster remains intact...

Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
