Singer-songwriter Chris Rea dies at 74

The English working-class songwriter's biggest hit in America was "Fool (If You Think It's Over)," but he also had a minor hit with "Diamonds" and the perennial UK Christmas hit "Driving Home for Christmas," which I have noticed has been gaining some increased traction in North America the past few years.

Chris Rea evokes memories from when I worked overseas. Some are good. One will remain repressed and profoundly sad (I know, just not wanting to divulge). May he RIP.

RIP Chris

Yes, for me "Fool (If You Think it's Over)" kind of fades into a mix of 1970s hits, but "Texas" stands out as unique. I heard it played a lot on VH1 in late 1989, which is kind of odd since Wikipedia says that the single wasn't released until 1990. But the album the song is from ("The Road to Hell") was released in 1989, and I guess they could have released a video of the song to promote the album. In any case, the song stuck with me both because of its cool sound, and also because in 1989 I was considering moving to Texas.

How sad! We would sometimes watch his programs when he was traveling. Not so much his Disney programs though.

He seemed a bit immature but very nice. I'm sorry he's gone and I feel bad for his friend German in Venice (GiV) who found him.

What I have pieced together from various reports so far is that GiV (Mike) is in Florida right now and was supposed to meet up with Adam. Adam did not show up or respond to calls so Mike called the police for a welfare check. The cops showed up, knocked on the door, and left.

Mike then went to Adam's house, borrowed a neighbor's ladder, and observed Adam deceased on his bed. At which time the police and fire department came back, entered the house, and pronounced Adam deceased.

Former IBM CEO Louis Gerstner, who revitalized 'Big Blue,' dead at 83

Louis Gerstner, the former CEO and chairman of IBM, died on Saturday, aged 83.

IBM chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna announced Gerstner’s death in an email sent Sunday to employees, but did not provide a cause of death.

“Lou arrived at IBM at a moment when the company’s future was genuinely uncertain. His leadership during that period reshaped the company. Not by looking backward, but by focusing relentlessly on what our clients would need next,” Krishna said in his email.

So yeah, he had money.

Yes, he made around $22,000 to $25,000 per month on a good month. He also worked hard for it producing a video every day for some fifteen years. That's a lot of work! And people gave ATW more views than Jimmy Kimmel or any other of the late night socialist commentators did.

I hate to say it, but it's not a lot of money when you realize that low-tier government administrators make that kind of money for doing far less work.

I watched ATW's recent trip to Europe and his expenses were pretty serious. Upside for him is it was all a write-off for producing video content.

But my point is that his profit margin or taxable income was probably more like $5000 to maybe $10000 per month.

The Kennedy curse continues.
She was one of the fiercest critics of her cousin RFK Jr.

Then she dies of what his acolytes would deem a "turbo cancer." One that, I'll note, would have never been diagnosed or even noticed without unsolicited bloodwork conducted during her child's birth.

The whole situation seems exceptionally bizarre, as if she was killed off (which that family knows, unfortunately, all too well).

"Turbo cancer" is linked to the mRNA shots that RFK, Jr. opposes.

Thought I might make the list.  I wasn't feeling well, my wife, an MD, thought I had a dissecting aorta.  She was standing there telling me I will die if I don't get to the hospital quickly.

Well, they rushed a bunch of tests at the hospital, my first time in a hospital since I was three years of age, and I soon found I it was not a dissecting aorta, but I had diabetes.  That diagnosis was very disappointing to me, but I was not terminal.

However, one of my firends I played bridge with died yesterday.  He was 87, and an excellent card player.  He still played a couple rounds of golf every week.

So, I enter 2026 with a disease I hope to contain in 2-3 months.  I intend to go from 215 lbs to 170, a weight I haven't been at since 1976.  I have already dropped 12 lbs.  I intend to be radical on this.  Interesting thing, I have to wait until February 2nd to see a primary care physician.  I had to wait over 6 days for CVS to get their sh*t together and have the supplies I needed to measure my glucose level, despite 1 in 3 folks having diabetes in the USA.  Healthcare, what a cluster f***!

Only good thing, I might get down to a 32 inch waist.  LOL!

I had borderline glucose numbers.  I took off 55 lbs, cleared it right up.  Glad you're still with us going into 2026.  Happy New Year!
