I find t sad that my first thought reading “The FBI should have been on to this terrorist cell” was, what makes you think they weren’t? It seems the FBI is no longer about protecting the American people or justice, but are more interested in social engineering a particular political view. I say flush them all.

As a whole,  security measures in this country are very effective.

I won't point a finger at the New Orleans security and police. I was told once, by a very wise man, you can't stop the crime. You can only make it harder to commit the crime.

Frankly, as many big gatherings that we have in this country...I'm surprised we don't have more "incidences".

I understand, but this is New Orleans, where I worked and lived for 10 years. So know it well.

Graft is widespread.  To spend $40 million for barricades and other security and not use it is typical.

Recall Katrina, where a 'Levee Board' who had lucrative compensation and budgets, spent lavishly but neglected it's principal duty to ensure flood levees were secured.

Never place as ignorance or incompetence what is simple graft and greed.

    I moved there in 90 (from Houston) to Manage a PC/Printer/Plotter Account for Texaco.  They tarred/Feathered and run me out of town in 92.

Apparently, the pipe bollards that have been installed to keep vehicular traffic off certain streets had been removed for maintenance, so the assailant had no problem gunning the truck down Bourbon St. One might question the timing of the maintenance, considering New Year's Eve, and all.

HOUSTON — The terrorist who killed 15 people when he plowed his truck down crowded Bourbon Street in New Orleans was an American-born military veteran who was living in a run-down trailer park where he kept sheep and goats in the yard — just blocks away from the local mosque.

Authorities say Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, from Houston, had an ISIS flag strapped to the rented Ford F-150 Lightning EV truck he used to carry out an act of premeditated terror on New Year’s Day.   ...

In a YouTube video he posted in 2020 for his real estate business, a clean-cut Jabbar described himself as a reliable, trustworthy native Texan who spent 10 years in the military, which taught him “the meaning of great service.”

But when he carried out the terror attack — one of the deadliest since 9/11 — Jabbar lived in a squalid trailer park on the outskirts of Houston that is home to mostly Muslim immigrants.

Geese, chickens, and sheep roamed freely in Jabbar’s yard when The Post visited hours after the attack. ...
