'Gunman' leaves 10 dead and 30 wounded after ramming truck into New Orleans NYE crowd and 'opening fire on survivors with rifle': FBI finds bomb inside vehicle, mayor brands atrocity 'terror attack'

At least 10 people are dead and 30 left injured after a vehicle plowed into a crowd celebrating New Year on Bourbon Street in New Orleans' French Quarter.

The driver rammed into the large group at high speed, then got out and started firing a weapon, CBS News said, citing witnesses. Police returned fire.

Witnesses claim the suspect was 'wearing full body armor' and 'armed with an assault rifle', according to reports on social media.

Videos circulating on social media that appear to have been recorded at the scene shows multiple casualties on the ground as shots ring out in the background. People were also seen running from the area.

Dozens of police officers have responded to what authorities have declared a 'mass casualty event' and a portion of the road has been cordoned off. Paramedics, ambulances and vehicles from the coroner's office were also seen at the scene.

Local media outlets have published an image of the truck involved in the mass casualty incident on Bourbon Street.

The Ford F-150 Lightning truck has a Texas license plate reading "LZ 1575." A flagpole hitch holder is visible with what appears to be a flag, although it seems covered. Additionally, there are four bullet holes in the rear cabin window of the truck.

The FBI confirmed that the suspect in the New Year's Day massacre on Bourbon Street in New Orleans is deceased after engaging with police officers.

The bureau also said the incident, in which 10 people were killed and 30 injured after the suspect plowed a pickup truck into a crowded street, is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

"This morning, an individual drove a car into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing a number of people and injuring dozens of others," the FBI said in a statement Wednesday. "The subject then engaged with local law enforcement and is now deceased. The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism."

New Orleans police chief Anne Kirkpatrick said the driver who plowed a car into a large crowd on Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning did so intentionally.

Kirkpatrick said the man drove a pickup truck down Bourbon Street "at a very fast pace." The suspect also fired a gun at police officers from the vehicle, hitting two officers who are now in stable condition.

"It was very intentional behavior," the superintendent of police said. ""This man was trying to run over as many people as he possibly could."

Kirkpatrick said this was not a case of drunk driving but was "more complex and more serious based on the information we have right now."

She noted the suspect went around police barricades to massacre as many people as he could.

"He was hell-bent on creating the carnage and damage that he did," Kirkpatrick said.

Twenty-six injured people were taken to UMC hospital, four were transported to Ochsner Baptist and one person is at Tulane Medical Center, according to police. There may be more injured victims taken to additional hospitals, Kirkpatrick said.

"I think this is a very tragic situation for me to tell you that we have ten people that this man killed on Bourbon Street," she said.

Kirkpatrick said the FBI will be taking over the investigation. The status of the suspect is unclear.

She also urged residents and tourists to "continue enjoying" the city on New Year's Day, noting that the Superdome will be safe for the Sugar Bowl match between the University of Georgia and Notre Dame football teams.

How do we know this is true? They always say this when they want the case to *disappear*. He's dead ... nothing to see here ... move along. How long did it take for 'the swamp' or rather the oligarchy to completely ERASE Thomas Crooks off the Earth as if he never existed? Then they cremated him within hours of the shooting.

I'm only saying that these perps being 'shot on the scene' is rather convenient for the people who want to bury the story to the point where it lasts for only a few days.

President-elect Donald Trump slammed the New Orleans terror attack as a 'pure act of evil' and said an illegal migrant is to blame.

Sources told Fox News that the suspect who killed at least 10 and injured over 30 New Orleans partygoers drove his truck across the border through Eagle Pass, Texas, just two days ago.

The citizenship status of the individual has not yet been confirmed, according to the report.

The suspect accused of plowing a truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning has been identified by a law enforcement source as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar.

Police fatally shot him after the attack, which killed 10 people and injured 35.

The source said Jabbar was carrying an ISIS flag in the truck, and authorities have said he was dressed in military gear.
 
Law enforcement said they are investigating the possibility that the attack involved multiple suspects. They are looking into whether a different suspect rented the truck used in the attack.

Bourbon Street attack suspect identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar

The suspect accused of mowing down a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early Wednesday has been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, Fox News Digital has confirmed.

Jabbar is a 42-year-old resident of Houston, Texas. Police shot and killed him after he crashed his pickup truck and began to shoot at officers.

A Glock handgun and .308 caliber rifle equipped with optics and a sensor were recovered from the crime scene, according to a high-level source familiar who was not authorized to discus details of the investigation publicly.

There are at least four to five other suspects involved, the source said.
