Mine would be covered with snow at least 6 months of the year.
At this latitude (48 degrees North), in order to get meaningful light on the panels (especially in winter), they'd have to be nearly vertical and facing south. Better hung on a south wall than mounted on the roof. While that would protect them from hail and from some wind, and keep snow from accumulating to any large degree, if the wind hit them just right, they'd have to be pretty substantial mounts to keep them from being peeled off the wall, and likely the wall would have to be reinforced to handle the load.
