Talk by Benny Peiser, director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation for the last 15 years, about the latest (geo)political and economical developments around climate policy. What does the Trump win mean for climate policy? What is the outcome of COP29 in Baku?
Peiser talked from his longtime experience with the climate debate. Peiser: “For the first time in all these years I see people starting to listen to us.” Is the consensus about climate broken? The global battle over the future of climate policies is deadlocked beyond repair. Developing nations are demanding $trillions in climate compensation and funding from developed nations. The latter, in return, demand that emerging countries like China, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Brazil need to contribute hundreds of $billions to global climate finance.
Meanwhile, a growing backlash against unpopular Net Zero policies has terminated the party-political climate consensus in Europe. This talk assesses the deepening economic and political Net Zero crisis and contemplate pragmatic policy alternatives. Dr Benny Peiser is the director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation. The GWPF is a non-partisan educational charity and think tank founded by the late Lord Lawson. Dr Peiser has written extensively on the economic risks and societal problems of the Net Zero agenda and unilateral climate policies. A 10km-wide asteroid, Minor Planet (7107) Peiser, was named in his honour by the International Astronomical Union.
