Faith leaders express dismay amid report Trump will allow immigration raids at churches
(RNS) — ‘I have 30 kids in a Sunday school class — I don’t know who is documented and undocumented,’ said one Latino pastor.
 

(RNS) — Faith leaders are reacting with concern to a report that President-elect Donald Trump plans to rescind a long-standing policy that discourages immigration officials from conducting raids at churches, schools and hospitals.

According to a report from NBC News on Wednesday (Dec. 11), the incoming Trump administration plans to do away with a policy outlined in an internal 2011 U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement memo by then-ICE director John Morton. The policy discourages government agents from making arrests at or near “sensitive locations,” such as houses of worship.

The news comes amid Trump’s campaign pledge to enact the “largest deportation” in U.S. history, which he has said could begin soon after he assumes office, and suggested in an interview over the weekend that U.S. citizens could be deported with undocumented family members.

It would be a shame if those churches were prosecuted for human trafficking and obstructing Federal law enforcement, calling into question their tax-exempt status and any government funding.

The US Constitution protects the freedom to worship, but does not recognize freedoms for violating Federal law or conspiring to violate Federal law.

Not trying won't solve anything.

Trump has been successful because he doesn't stop fighting.

Congressional Republicans have been disappointments because they lack the fortitude for a sustained, fight.

A fighter lives for the fight, not wins and losses.

Americans are desperate for leaders who are willing to fight for them, and understand that strategic wins sometimes cost tactical losses.  Congressional GOP has too many political tacticians, and not enough strategic fighters.

If you want to do outreach, take it to them at home, in their country of origin.
Bringing them here will make no changes there, save to let whatever problems that made them leave have less opposition.

Actually, raiding a church is wrong.  Traditionally churches can grant sanctuary to anyone they want to protect from the secular authorities.  Of course, the condition of the sanctuary is that the person granted it cannot leave the church, and must live an essentially monastic existence subsisting on charity and whatever the church provides in exchange for labor carried out in the church precincts.

Have ICE agents camp out around churches thought to be harboring illegal immigrants so that people in the US illegally can be nabbed for violating our immigration laws when they leave.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.
