Shocking Statistics on American Illiteracy
« on: December 12, 2024, 10:13:11 pm »
ILLITERACY IN AMERICA  (GOOGLE DOCUMENTS)

About 21% of adults in the United States, or 43 million people, are functionally illiterate. This means they have low literacy skills and have difficulty with tasks like comparing and contrasting information, paraphrasing, or making low-level inferences.

Here are some other literacy statistics in the United States:
    • 54% of adults have a literacy level below 6th grade.
    • 45 million adults are functionally illiterate and read below a 5th grade level.
    • 44% of adults don't read a book in a year.
    • 20% of Americans read below the level needed to earn a living wage.
    • 50% of unemployed people between the ages of 16 and 21 can't read well enough to be considered functionally literate.
    • 27 million Americans can't read well enough to fill out a job application.

When it comes to economics, I reckon the number to be upwards of 70%.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Very believable. Just read the comments on a large social media thread. Very few demonstrate true literacy.

That's not accidental.

... illiteracy is a small price to pay for stopping Gloobal Climate Change.  What's the point of learning when the planet is on fire?

Phonics, grammar, spelling, and punctuation are systemically racist anyway.

DefiantMassRINO is reporting to the authorities everyone who isn't afraid, like he is.
After all, one degree change every hundred years or so is deadly!

Ironic that he displays irrational panic in a thread discussing "illiteracy".

Illiteracy, of many kinds, is increasing because schools are devoting too many resources to nonsense.

Massachusetts voters decided to remove the MCAS standard exam as a graduation requirement for highschool.  They were worried about kids having anxiety attacks about failing.  What kind of anxiety attacks will those same kids have when it comes time for college, graduate school, or the work place?

They'll be high-strung, have short attention spans, be incompetent, but they'll be my bosses because their parents could afford to put them through college.
