May God forgive my thoughts at seeing this!

A Star Trek episode, actually two episodes come to mind seeing this.

These kind of reports bug me. Mitch needs to go, and he needs to go now. Having said that, I don't think it is fair to criticize him for using a wheelchair. The man had polio, for heaven's sake. I can tell you from watching my aunt, who also had polio as a child, that the resulting weakness has gotten worse with age. Needing a wheelchair in and of itself is not disqualifying nor shameful. Trying to cover it up is just stupid and makes it seem like it is a bigger issue than it is.

Now those episodes of freezing up at the podium, which still look to me a whole lot like absence seizures or something similar, are a completely different story. That absolutely should be disqualifying.

Post Polio Syndrome.  Kids that recovered from polio rebuilt neuron pathways to the musculature.  These pathways fail later in adulthood. Possibly what has relegated him to a wheel chair.  But like you said, it doesn't explain his rapid mental decline.

Agreed,  Polly. It's his mental capacity that concerns me, not the weakness or unsteadiness.

McConnell misses Senate votes due to ‘leg stiffness’ after Tuesday fall

.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is working from home on Thursday after a fall earlier in the week, according to his office.

“After tripping on Tuesday, Leader McConnell is experiencing leg stiffness and will work from home today,” a McConnell spokesman told the Washington Examiner.

The Kentucky senator, 82, sprained his wrist after tripping and falling on Tuesday after Republican senators met for lunch. He was taken to his office after the fall, where a medical staffer attended to him with a wheelchair.

On his way to the Senate floor later Tuesday, McConnell told reporters he was “feeling good.” He had bandages under his left eye and on his left wrist.

Technically, that's a transport chair, not a wheelchair. Oddly, while it presupposes assistance, it signals *some* sort of ambulatory ability. It's for moving folks across a distance that they would have trouble negotiating on their own. In my case, I get around alright within a certain distance... But up at the hospital, if I have to go more than maybe a block or so, they'll throw me in a transport chair and have an intern push me, while I steer my buggy along out front.

My point being that if he were *not* ambulatory, he would be in a wheelchair. So he's getting around some, on his own. As you said, disability is not the issue, and there is no shame in a duffer using a transport chair.

YEP. He's firing on empty chambers. He needs to be at home, sitting on his porch.

By law the appointment has to be the same party as the current office holder.  So Andy B. would have to fill the seat with a Republican.

Yep, but what would keep an AOC from sham changing to the GOP, and taking the spot?

Mitch McConnell Absent From Senate After Fall

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was absent from the Capitol on Thursday after he fell during a Republican luncheon two days earlier, according to multiple reports, marking the latest health episode for the 82-year-old senator.

Key Facts

McConnell attended work in-person on Wednesday, but stayed home Thursday as he was experiencing leg stiffness due to the fall, his office said, according to multiple reports.

McConnell fell during a Senate Republican luncheon, and was seen returning to his office with a cut on his face, according to Politico, which reported medical personnel entered his office a short time later.

McConnell did not attend the weekly GOP press conference, where incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said McConnell was “fine” and “in his office.”

Concerns were raised last year about McConnell’s health after he froze twice in a period of less than two months in front of reporters, episodes a congressional doctor attributed to lightheadedness, potentially from a concussion he incurred in March that year when he fell at a Washington hotel.

Exactly. I got no problem with the wheelchair. I do have a serious issue with the mental capacity.

THe average person only pays a little attention to the ads.

Back when North Dakota's Congressional delegation were all Dems, Senator Quentin Burdick kept getting reelected. A lady I knew was on the same plane with him, and said he was incapable of carrying on a conversation about anything. Staffers propped him up for his last election, using file footage and ads, harping on his seniority. He was reelected and passed away while in office.

The television ads and the staffers are what got him reelected. I guess their job security meant more than the constituents.
