In the 1970's, the Climate hysteria was about the Antarctic hole in the ozone layer, allegedly caused by CFL's. Aquanet was public enemy #1.

There was also Acid Rain; briefly Yellow Rain; and the Threat of Nuclear Winter. Good times.
Is it me, or has Global Climate Change gotten worse since the creation of the US Environmental Protection Agency?
When the EPA ran out of real pollution, it had to justify its continued existence. With the smog domes mostly gone, (recall most of the emissions controls on vehicles started in the 70s) it had to go looking elsewhere. Particulates, ever tightening standards for lead and whatever else it could think of worked for a while, but dammit, people found ways to comply with the moving target standards, or shipped their foundries and factories off to some place that only spoke a little English near the airport and hotel.
With all that gone, they siezed on the Anthropognic Global Warming shtick, later renamed "Climate Change", which covered all bases, but still blamed humans for the weather and decided an essential gas for photosynthesis and even respiration was to blame. In an effort to regulate the unregulatable, Morris Strong, Albert Gore, and IIRC George Soros were going to get the country to regulate how much carbon (dioxide) could be produced by industry and sell indulgences purchased from people who had lots of green stuff that soaked up CO2 and make trillions. But no one went for it but the farmers who cashed the checks and kept doing what they were doing while the Midwest Carbon Exchange died for lack of a mandate.
In what may be a fit of pique, they have advocated for "renewable" energy (although all the stuff to harvest it breaks or wears out), possibly making bank on the side from nonsensical artificially imposed limits on how energy is produced and used.
We are here. Huge money is being tossed about on unproven systems to generate gigawatts we have no way of distributing to run vehicles few actually want, and that whole scheme is being propped up by massive grants of our tax dollars disguised as 'loans' and 'incentives' for already well-to-do folks living in areas that are warm, who are the easiest to scare about hotter weather.
It is the most incredible ongoing scam, ever.
Piltdown Man did not last an eyeblink compared to this one, nor generate a scintilla of the revenue.
Typical of cancel culture, the Petition Project which has over 30,000 scientist signatories who asked that we not subscribe to the Kyoto Protocols because human contributions to climate change had not been proven, has been scrubbed from the web.
Far more noteworthy scientists than I were included in the list of signatories, (Linus Pauling, for one), yet Snopes (the couple in their basement with no formal scientific education I know of) said we were unqualified.
I know how difficult it was to prove your CV to be considered qualified, and I was, so in my not so scientific opinion, Snopes can go impale itself, tonsils first on a big one.
