WASHINGTON — Special counsel Jack Smith has filed a motion to drop all four felony charges against President-elect Donald Trump in connection with his effort to overturn his 2020 presidential election in the lead-up to the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S Capitol.

Trump was first indicted on four felonies in August 2023: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights. The case was then put on hold for months as Trump’s team argued that Trump could not be prosecuted.

The indictment marked an extraordinary moment in American history — the first-ever accusation that a president sought illegally to cling to power.

Just another flashing beacon of proof of the lawfare angle.  Smith has gone into mass retreat, prob. in fear of repercussions.

All the lawfare, I would guess north of $100 million.

And just think for a moment what Jack Smith would be doing if Trump would have lost.

The accelerator button would have been pushed and Trump would have spent all his time and money fighting to stay out of his clutches.

We dodged a proverbial very big bullet, and I pray Trump continues to dodge the real ones that will be directed at him by feverish leftists who see their world crumbling down on them.

Someone on the internet said, "It's a dismissal without prejudice, meaning they can be refiled at a later date"..

Going after an 82 year old man in 2029, does not make for good political optics.  I think this thing is over.

That would be the case for normal proceedings.

But this is Trump, who is in the process of destroying their agenda, so optics be damned.  And their agenda means that retribution will occur so anyone else who dares to upset their plans knows what will happen to him.

Can you imagine being forced to provide discovery on that BS?

All a trial would do at this point is to provide an opportunity to expose the whole rotten set-up and the chief players.

If the Dems were in control, the persecution would continue.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
