Mass Immigration Advocates Weaponize Language – Yet Again
November 21, 2024
Donald Trump’s first administration ushered in swift, vigorous, and effective actions designed to reverse the Obama administration’s non-enforcement of immigration laws. Upon returning to office next January, President-elect Trump is expected to double down on those efforts and reverse the Biden administration’s near-evisceration of all immigration controls. Likewise — and not surprisingly — mass immigration advocates, special interests, and their allies in the media are expected to torque up their tactics as well in the form of resistance, lawsuits, fear-mongering, and in particular, the use of inflammatory and powerfully misleading language.
In fact, those groups are already underway manipulating words and obfuscating the truth by conflating “immigrants” and “illegal aliens” to suggest all will be subject to mass deportation. They’re hoping to convince the public it’s a distinction without a difference, yet in reality, the two categories are vastly different.
They’ve done that before, of course. But given the plethora of recent headlines, it’s clear the deceptive tactic will expand to become the standard nomenclature in the months ahead scaring immigrants even though the new administration’s enforcement focus is on illegal aliens.
A sampling of recent headlines and content reveals the rising level of linguistic subterfuge:
