The GOP Establishment Is A Greater Threat To Trump’s Agenda Than Democrats

The defeat of Matt Gaetz’s nomination for attorney general shows that this time, Trump really does have to drain the swamp.

Matt Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration for attorney general on Thursday. It was an early setback for President-elect Donald Trump that confirms the greatest threat to his agenda isn’t Democrats, but establishment Republicans.

Apparently there were at least four GOP senators staunchly opposed to confirming Gaetz as attorney general: Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and John Curtis of Utah. Assuming all Democrat senators voted against him, that would have put Gaetz one vote shy of confirmation.

The corporate media, along with a cadre of Never Trump commentators on the right, boasted about the defeat of Gaetz’s nomination, citing widely discredited sexual allegations against him as evidence that he was unfit to lead the Justice Department. Never mind that those allegations have always been comically thin.

Indeed, as my colleague Mollie Hemingway laid out in these pages recently, the entire campaign to smear Gaetz as a “child sex trafficker” was from the outset a giant psy-op and fraud. After an 18-month investigation by the Biden Justice Department, no charges were filed against Gaetz because the two central witnesses in the probe had serious credibility problems.

Put the vote to the Senate floor.  Make them put their names on it in writing.

How can voters hold Senators accountable if they never put anything to a vote?  That's why Senators avoid votes like the plaugue - so they can't be held accountable ... for anything ... ever.

Yep, for these sick GOP Senators to approve of a raving lunatic like Democrat Garland as AG yet condemn a GOP nominee for AG is sick, sick and undermine our entire country.

Merrick Garland as AG worked out for Trump ... that castrated Keebler Elf was too timid to get the Trump indictments and trials completed before the 2024 Election.

Merrick Garland made Trump's legal delay strategy more effective by doing nothing until the Jan. 6th Commission started embarassing DOJ and FBI.

Can we forget the the nonsense leveled against Gaetz for the moment.  Let's suppose none of that was hanging in the air.  The UGLY TRUTH is that he is NOT an experienced litigator, and he has NEVER MANAGED anything in his life.  THE DOJ has over 110,000 people to direct.  He is NOT qualified with his experience.

I do not have anything against Gaetz, but he is NOT qualified to run the DOJ.  Pam Bondi on the other hand has run Florida's justice operation, so I expect she will be a better choice to produce results.

Unfortunately, many RINOs exist to stymie Trump and those that support him every step of the way.  They did last time, they will again this time.  Sen Thune will be at the top of the list for dragging his feet to support Trump.

Trump didn't want Gaetz to manage the DOJ; Trump wanted Gaetz to disassemble it.

   Trump needs an Edwin Meese III (Reagan's AG) type to clean up the DOJ. Pamela is good but like Gaetz, she will be quickly overwhelmed with the task, IMHO.

Will be easier if she selects some competent experienced people at her side.  Let's hope that happens as there will be a lot of District Attorneys to be replaced.
