Too much baggage, too many Republican Senators disliking him, etc, etc.  I suspect Trump knew this would happen and has his replacement pick on hand....  Gaez will be fine, perhaps with a nice fat deal with Fox News, etc, etc.

Cruz or Paxton would both be great as AG's. Both have the background needed, however selecting Paxton would allow Cruz to keep his Senate seat.  The GOP needs to maintain their majority. OTH Cruz knows the members of the deep state and would be able to focus immediately on draining the swamp.

This spared us a major distraction and embarrassing failed nomination.  I just wonder if he stays in the House, or made a deal to avoid trouble.

Wimp.  Gaetz is no Tom Homan.

GOP needs to stop running soft-handed candidates.  We need candidates that can take the hits, and keep moving forward.

The Dem playbook, since the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court confirmation hearings, is to accuse the Republican of an ambiguous allegation of sexual impropriety and to try him in the press, where he has the burden of proof to prove he's innocent.

Yes, but that had the virtue of ending the House ethics investigation that had testimony from witnesses (and participants) of Gaetz's sex and drug parties, including one where he apparently had sex with a 17 year old in Florida where the age of consent is 18.  The DOJ dropped their investigation because the only way they could have gotten involved is if he had "trafficked" the girl across state lines, meaning only that she evidently was not induced to come to Florida to have sex, not that they didn't believe he'd had sex with her.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) thinks former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who just dropped out of consideration for President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general spot, could be a good candidate to replace Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

Rubio is set to vacate his Senate seat after Trump nominated him to be his secretary of state.

Scott said he was disappointed Gaetz was dropping out but that “Matt would be a great person” to take Florida’s soon-to-be-open Senate seat, according to Politico. Scott suggested his first preference for the seat would be Republican National Committee Co-Chairwoman Lara Trump.
