Importing Hate: Mass Migration Facilitates Jihadist Extremism and Islamist Terrorism

On the morning of Saturday, October 26, an Orthodox Jewish man was walking down the street in the West Ridge neighborhood of Chicago on his way to a synagogue. He was spotted and followed by Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, an illegal alien from the Northwest African nation of Mauritania, who proceeded to shoot him while shouting “Allahu Akbar!” When police and paramedics arrived to assist the victim – who survived the shooting – Abdallahi began shooting at them as well. The illegal alien also survived the gun battle he initiated, winding up hospitalized in critical condition. He now faces terrorism and hate crime charges.
Abdallahi was able to enter the United States thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s open-borders policies that encouraged migrants from all over the world to come to our country illegally. Among those who have been showing up are “special interest aliens” (SIAs) – foreign nationals from countries that pose terrorism, extremism (jihadist and otherwise), and national security concerns, or those with suspicious travel patterns. ICE acknowledged that Abdallahi is an illegal alien, and multiple media reports point out that he was encountered by the U.S. Border Patrol near San Ysidro, California, (near San Diego) on March 31, 2023, and released into the country (although it remains unclear on what basis).
According to the New York Post “[w]hen Abdallahi was caught at the border last year, authorities didn’t find any criminal or terrorist histories.” The illegal alien stated that he wished to travel to live with his friend in Indiana, and was simply released with a court date. He apparently informed Border Patrol agents that he did not fear being returned to Mauritania, but subsequently filed for asylum anyway.
