Then comes the pièce de résistance: Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev steps up to the mic and declares oil and gas to be “God’s gift” to his nation.

The “Climate” Conference in an Oil Nation
Let’s start with the hilarious choice of venue. Azerbaijan is one of those countries where crude oil isn’t just a commodity—it’s practically a national sport. Hosting COP29 in Baku is akin to holding a Weight Watchers meeting in a donut shop. And yet, the global climate elites packed their bags and flew to the Land of Hydrocarbons to sit through speeches about how we’re all doomed unless we ban the very thing that keeps Azerbaijan afloat.

COP29: Confronting narratives and absurdities at climate summit (Part II)

Examples of the perpetual masquerade of the climate industry were on display at the United Nations COP29 “Green Zone,” where private companies underwriting the cost of the summit, along with participating governments, virtue-signaled their embrace of the cause of changing the climate.

The Socar Oil Company, owned by the government of Azerbaijan, had a large vendor display. The company is the nation’s major developer of oil and gas, with revenue that funds 60 percent of government budget and provides more than 90 percent of the nation’s electricity. Earlier this year, just in time for hosting COP29, Socar created a subsidiary, Socar Green, to develop wind turbines and solar panels with the goal of making the company carbon “net zero” by 2050.

I asked Fidan Zeynalova, a senior commercial analyst for Socar, how it was possible for renewable energy to replace or offset carbon from oil and gas production. She acknowledged it would take years and that oil and gas extraction will continue, basically until it runs out, but that it was wise to prepare for that future possibility. Without her saying so, it was clear the goal of “net zero” carbon emissions was more public relations imagery and unserious.

Host nation of UN COP29 summit explodes climate narrative

Upon arriving in Azerbaijan two weekends ago to attend the United Nations’ COP29 Climate Summit with my colleagues at the Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), I had no idea who the President was of this small, former Soviet Republic, and now independent nation, hosting this annual event.

I sure do now.

His name is Ilham Aliyev, and my ‘o my did he make a splash this week at the summit.

The president’s statements and other features of this remote host nation raise several ironies about this year’s climate summit.

Al Gore: Climate Barking at COP29

“To the Church of Climate, Al Gore will always be their champion. But back in reality, citizen voters have had enough as consumers and taxpayers.”

Everyone knows the carnival barker, that deep throated voice at a funfair extolling the merits of an amusement. But then there is Al Gore, the aging guru whose prognostications of climate doom were not only exaggerated but laughably wrong. But on he goes, like a Cuckoo Clock.

On social media, Oliver Bolton, self-described CEO of Earthly, “an organization empowering hundreds of businesses around the world to reverse climate breakdown and restore our planet,” praised yet another emotional outburst of Al Gore toward climate (and political) reality.

Al Gore’s electrifying speech at COP29 is one of the standout moments for me. It was a powerful reminder of what’s at stake and a call for the ambition and accountability the world urgently needs. He reminds us that the stakes have never been higher and the time for decisive action is now.

The Zoo Mass Amherst professor wants to impose change upon nations sooner, rather than later. 

Sounds like a Marxist call to arm to further radicalize the Global Climate Change movement towards anti-Western, anti-capitalist revolution.

During the 1990s, the main competitive on-campus sport at UMass Amherst was elevator surfing ... riding on top of an elevator it ascended and descended.  There were some tragedies.

The sums of money being demanded at the UN climate conference in Azerbaijan are staggering.

The UN estimates that the world currently spend $3 trillion per year on climate and wants to dedicate $3.5 trillion to energy transition per year by 2050.  This would skyrocket total annual global climate spending to $5 trillion.

A trillion here, a trillion there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.

They are pushing for something they call the “new collective quantified goal” at COP 29 in Baku.  This mainly means a fortune in climate redistribution from the developed to the developing world.COP 29: The big UN money grab 1
