Something people need to understand about the Hegseth pick.

Our military is in crisis.

Our navy can barely build ships anymore. Our army has squandered years of munitions on the Ukraine quagmire.

Our soldiers are out of shape and morale is low.

Our country lost in Afghanistan and is losing right now to Houthis in Yemen.

Our military purged thousands of experienced patriots for not getting a Covid shot.

Professors warn that standards at our service academies have declined precipitously.

Our military had officers pick a fight with Tucker Carlson because he didn’t want pregnant women on the frontlines.

Our military admits mentally ill people who think they are the opposite sex and pays for their unnecessary medical procedures.

Our generals leak to the media about defying orders they might not like from President Trump.

All of this happened with “experienced” establishment generals running things. It’s unacceptable, and if it continues our country will keep losing wars, until we lose one we can’t afford to lose.

We need a SecDef who understands the scale of this problem and is ready for bold, decisive action. We need a smart outsider — and Pete Hegseth is a brilliant man who has thrived in the military, in academia, in finance, and in media. He understands the nature of this crisis and is ready to attack it immediately.

The people complaining think things are fine. They are afraid of losing cushy sinecures and lavish contracts. They want to maintain a failing status quo that works for them.

They should be ignored.

I like this pick. Hegseth will be very popular with the troops. He is very articulate and well-qualified. His senate hearing will go very well as he takes on the woke Dems who will try to hogtie him.  This is definitely an "outside the box" pick, but I think the Defense Department needs a major realignment with someone young and personable, who will challenge all the present assumptions.

I like those aspects, but I fully expect to be frozen out by the rank and file O7+'s in the Pentagon.  It won't be easy.

Sorry, this is crazy to me.

I'm no military person but it seems you need someone with more experience with massive organizations.  Basically:  it doesn't matter what kind of organization, this is just true all around.

I like Hegseth fine, but in this position?  No.

Some people are left at the level of their competence.  Israel Putnam was legendary, but as one great historian noted, he was great as a colonel, nothing as a general.

Mark my words.  A)  It will not be easy for him with all the bigwigs there and B) he'll be in over his head.  Perhaps Hegseth will decline, wisely.

Chill out.  It’s my view.  Is all.  And being Trump, often smacks of just trying to deliberately be rebellious for rebellion’s sake.

We’ll see.

A retired colonel (helicopter pilot) is a friend, and he assures us there are far too many generals who never  should have received that promotion. Here's hoping they'll retire soon.

I'm amused by comments like these. Hegseth has a lot more military knowledge and experience than most Defense Secretaries. For example, Caspar Weinberger, Robert McNamara and Elliot Richardson all served a few years during WWII, but thereafter worked exclusively in law, business and/or politics. Dick Cheney never served in the military; his entire career was in politics. Obama's Sec. of Defense, Ash Carter, briefly worked as a physicist before becoming a career bureaucrat. The list goes on and on, but calling Hegseth nothing more than a weekend FOX personality is simplistic and ignorant.

Pete Hegseth vs. Lloyd Austin

Why did Washington freak out about Pete Hegseth’s nomination for Secretary of Defense – replacing Lloyd Austin? Plain and simple: corruption.

Pete Hegseth’s career outside the military includes political commentary on FoxNews and executive roles at multiple Veteran’s Advocacy Groups.

Lloyd Austin’s career outside the military includes being on the board of Raytheon (defense contractor) and being a Partner at Pine Island Capital – an investment firm made up of multiple former Senators, Military Officers and Government Officials, most notably current Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. To date, Pine Island Capital has purchased two companies that rely entirely on Government Defense Contracts.

No one is worried about Pete’s academic credentials or military experience – they’re worried about Pete’s lack of entanglement with Defense Contractors.

Pete Hegseth sexual assault investigation emerges amid questions over Trump team’s vetting
By
Mike Brest
November 15, 2024 12:06 pm
.

Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be the next Secretary of Defense, was investigated, but not charged, in a sexual assault case less than a decade ago, raising questions about the Trump transition team’s vetting process.

The Monterey Police Department in California investigated “an alleged sexual assault” involving Hegseth that took place in the early hours of Oct. 8, 2017, at the address of a Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa, which was reported four days later. The alleged victim’s name and age were not shared publicly by the Monterey government spokesperson, who released a statement on Thursday, following the reporting of Hegseth’s ties to the alleged incident.

There were no weapons involved in the alleged assault, and the victim was left with contusions to their right thigh.

“This allegation was already investigated by the Monterey Police Department, and they found no evidence for it,” Hegseth’s lawyer, Timothy Parlatore, denied the allegation to Vanity Fair. Hegseth, whom Trump tapped to lead the Pentagon earlier this week, met with the president-elect’s chosen chief of staff, Susie Wiles, and Trump’s lawyers on Thursday, according to the outlet.

So he was investigated but no evidence was found. And there were no charges.

An AP reporter said Hegseth's tattoo was a symbol of white supremacy. It's a Jerusalem Cross, which represents Jesus Christ, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The AP is not hiring writers who know how to use Google.
